Mono vs P1

http://jalopnik.com/watch-this-ti...acebook&utm_medium=socialflow

This is too good to bury in the Youtube thread. A Silverstone track day with a P1 and Mono driven by Oliver Webb. Check out the oversteer correction at around 3:30.

Impressive stuff and that was a big save.

Shame about the monstrous git plate on the P1. I was amazed to see that the guy at the wheel is a racing driver - his lines look hopeless.

I'm not convinced Mr Bailey was driving to his full potential. From what I've read in the past he's pretty handy behind the wheel and races competitively in some series though is perhaps more of a gentleman driver.

The number plate is odd as well - I'm pretty certain the car was registered under the plate P4UL B but it seems he found one that fits the car even better (though I am not personally a fan)

His car collection is epic though - a true petrolhead
Nice Guy Eddie

I've been on a couple of track days with that chap in the Mono and can confirm its bloody quick. Thst P1 is quite frankly insane.

Weren't they just.  The P1 just waltzes away along the straights, and I find it hard to believe that the Mono is that much quicker under braking or in the corners.

I think on an open track day the drivers are more aware of the other cars so lines differ: the P1 driver was aware the Mono was quick through the turns so took lines to accommodate that fact. I personally felt the white Mk2 Golf was the star of the video....

Yes, 12th: track cars are shitloads faster through the corners and under braking than super / hyper cars.

I didn't suggest that they weren't quicker (my 'that' is italicised), but that much quicker than a P1 if the driver was competent, trying and in track mode?  Don't buy that, sorry.

Hmm. I went to a track day on a 250cc NSR road bike once. I was up against a load of other bikes: mainly big litre bikes. They all pissed off on the first 2 straights then I caught them; then I overtook them. Then I didn't see them again. 50bhp and 121kg vs 150bhp and 228kg. I'm no Marc Marquez either!

I'm not sure if "better" is quite the word I'd use

is that weight with rider?

Oli is our test driver and only recently posted the video, now it's gone viral!

Also, the red car is on standard steel brakes. Our black car on carbon ceramics is frankly ludicrous, but is too loud for track use at the moment.
Martin

As has been mentioned, the P1 is being driven very strangely indeed.  It's almost like he wants the Mono to catch up in the corners so he can blow it away down the straights, either that or he was just giving it plenty of room to come past.

The P1 wasn't in Race mode either was it?
Blarno

Oli and the driver of the P1 are friends, they were just playing around with one another.

I thought that was pretty obvious!
