Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe

Spoiler from the Evo first drive:

"itís as spectacular as it looks and sounds. And boy does it sound good. That 4-litre V8 is an absolute monster of an engine and it really is the heart and soul of the car and the experience. It makes you feel good as soon as it explodes into life and whether enjoying the near-instant mid-range thump or holding out for the wild top-end delivery itís full of character and just incredibly exciting. For sense of occasion it makes the straight-six of the M4 seem utterly joyless"

Sounds like my sort of car. When I consider why I put up with 26MPG to drive often long motorway trips, and wonder what I'd get to next, its that constant joy from the engine that does it for me. Although it sounds like Franki was disappointed, I'd love to try something with the new 4 litre Merc V8.

I don't know what the others think, but personally I like the mini-S Class coupe look of the new C class coupe, its certainly a lot less like the saloon than before.

Me too. Unlike Racing I think the previous gen is also ok but the new one adds a dash more class.
Nice Guy Eddie

I really like the new C class coupe and I think I'm a bit alone on that one but they are rather speac sensitive.

Give me a C63S Coupe in that mid blue with the satin cross spoke wheels and I'd be a happy man. Having run one through the configurator a few weeks ago, its far from a cheap car however. Think I got 'mine' to near 80k.
JohnC

I think the new shape is very spec and colour sensitive but I agree entirely with NiceGuyEddie on the mid blue metallic and the wheels. However they are now a silly price new.

Every 4 litre Merc V8 I have heard has sounded wonderful and so much so that I have contemplated a visit to Mercedes World for one of their C63 or AMG Coupe driving experiences.

Incidentally a new RS4 blasted away from the petrol station yesterday and sounded glorious too.
Martin

I like the new Mercedes coupes but agree that the right spec is essential. †An S63 came last me this morning and it looks great, I'd be happy enough with an S500.

Agreed. The C coupe looks way better then the saloon as it avoids the melted rear end look of the C saloon.

What is the "right spec"? Are we just talking about decent sized wheels? (Needed to balance the slim glasshouse)

You think? I still think the coupe looks melted. I see it and think "porpoise"...
PhilD

I like the melt look!
Michael

I don't like the current coupe or the last one. They do look melted but they also look half-baked (maybe why it melted?), they could have tried harder, their heart wasn't really in it.

The window line and the rear lights make all the differecne for me between the two.

Saloon - short rear window, and the falling boot line, plus the awful contradiction between the upkick on the rear bumper side profile and the downward pointing teardrop lights cause an awful effect. †
Whereas on the coupe, the more pleasing rear window line allied to the horizontal lights (much better than the saloons awkward shaped ones) make a huge difference.

I followed a new grey C Class estate on Thursday, I didn't pay much attention until it shot off with a roar of V8 warbliness. I caught up at the next junction I saw the C63s badge. What's the relevance of the additional 's'?

I saw it again yesterday, from the front, and it has a nasty red grill surround.

The pictures above show why the estates are the best looking of the current generation Mercs.

About 40bhp

I donít like the rear of the C-Class Coupe. The bootlid rises with the rear screen, whereas the 4-Series has a more level-looking bootlid, I prefer the latter. Consequently, the Merc looks too short from the back IMO. The Saloon looks nicer.

The 4-Series and outgoing A5 are the nicest looking mid-sized coupeís in recent years.

Big love for the S-Class Coupe, though.

Whatever the C-Class looks like, Iím looking forward to seeing the C43Ö
Andy C

estate looks best by miles .
