Mechanic type help neededThere is a vibration coming through the accelerator pedal as i drive. It seems to get stronger the faster i go. Been having trouble with the heat shield since i got the 421 fitted, its rubbing something and squeaking alot. Thinking about removing it all together, could this be the cause, rubbing against something? Or is it more likely to be some sort of wheel hub/bearing type thing? 2 days before HHRT i could do without this.

A heatshield shouldn't cause vibrations that you can feel, as it were. You may have lost a wheel weight. A bearing will make more noise when cornering, a deep grauching sound.
The alternative is that the manifold itself is rubbing against something or the exhaust hangers are shot.
My Clio makes a sort of machine gun sound and vibration under really hard acceleration, but that's because of an inherently weak dogbone mount for the engine underneath the car. (There's another one, it could be engine mounts)

You reckon a trip to kwikfit (shudder) could be see if the balance on the wheels is out? I need the tracking doing anyway.

If the steering wheel is wobbling too, then it's likely to be the wheel weights. If not, I'm reckoning on it being the manifold or an engine mount.
Has it only done it since the manifold was fitted?

The squeaking has been non stop since the maifold was fitted. Something is definately rubbing, its coming into the cabin really ludly, its annoying as hell.
The vibration only started this morning.
Can i just take the whole heat shield out?

Ditch the heatshield and see what happens, it's worth a try and costs nowt.

Not likely to do any harm with it not being there is it?

I've never had anything set on fire after removing a heatshield, most manifold heatshields rust and fall off anyway! If you're worried about heat loss, get some exhaust wrap and bang that on.
Re: the vibration. Start your engine and have a look under the front of the car to check the exhaust isn't catching the sump. The new manifold might be a slightly different size, causing it to catch.

What is it shielding?
I would perhaps suggest that you heat wrap your manifold if you are concerned about it...

Exhaust wrap. Hmmm. They often bang on about that in fast ford, meant to be very good. Something for the future that though.

I used wrap on my Legacy after I removed all the heatshields.

Aye, no problem. I'll be at the Abbey Arms earlier as I've got to go to Warrington first.
