McLaren gets a suspended sentence...A three-race ban, suspended for a year:

Kind-of a bit of an easy way out for a storm in a teacup, if you ask me.

Well the whole thing had been blown out of all proportion, especially when you consider past misdemeanours from other teams/drivers, a suspended ban is a way out of punishing but not really punishing.
Well with that out of the way everyone can get on with what is a superb season.

Fair enough. I think Whitmarsh has gone the right way about handling it.
Case closed hopefully. Now they can get on with the important business of making the car go faster.

Time to get back to racing, then. I hope that there's no more of this sort of tosh during the remainder of what promises to be a great season.

They got away easy, but at least it's case closed.

Smart move to take Dennis out of the picture just in case there is any truth in the Max and Bernie vendetta rumour...

Has anyone had a look at the BBC's F1 forum? Pure hysteria - there are people on there suggesting that Mclaren would sell their grandmothers to guarantee a result and that all the British teams should be banned from F1...

They came clean once they were caught cheating, where is the honour or honesty in that? I'm far from a McLaren hater but they were still caught being deceitful cheats. I think they have been very lucky, I'd have banned them for a good few weeks minimum.

In the current climate a ban would've been a ridiculous thing to do.
Wouldn't it have presented a problem with the number of cars on the grid?
Perhaps the FIA have finally realised they have as much responsibility for presenting the sport well as any of the teams.
The Spygate and subsequent Renault non-Spygate disasters are as clear an example of bringing the sport into disrepute as anything any of the teams have done that I can EVER remember.
Anyway cheating seems to be perfectly acceptable in top level televised sport.
If it wasn't football would be much more enjoyable to watch.

I'm not a fan of McLaren, in particular the way they always try and present themselves as whiter-than-white when they obviously aren't, but I'm pleased with this outcome. They lied, they got caught, they got punished at the time, but anything further would have been excessive. Best just to move on from it, huh?
