Maserati GranCabrio

Quite tasty.

BeN

Mmm...

Looks neater than the coupe.
Guitar Zero

That is very tasty

Stupid name though - Gran Cabrio ???
Pkh72

I agree with GZ, lovely car but a daft name.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Though Grandpa Cabrio wouldn't have been any better.
Rodge

I may be wrong here but to me, it looks more like an Eighty Grand Cabrio. (Not sure how much Maserati's go for these days)

Nice car though.
Twelfth Monkey

Loses most of what makes the coupe special, for me at least.
PG

I'm sure they'll sell them, being a four seat convertible means that it just does not do it for me. The coupe looke better to my eye too.
Parm

I think I prefer the coupe, but I can imagine the engine note will be twice as alluring top down, as it sounds fab from the kerb side.
Martin

I'm one of the few people who don't like the coupe, so it's not going to appeal.  I bet it sounds great with the roof down and bigger back seats will give it the edge over some of the competition I'd guess.

Me too.

Although there's a hot chick that drives one down the street which makes it a bit more attractive.
Blarno

It's not difficult to look better than the coupe.
franki68

what is it like with the hood up ? Lovely car, magnificent  engine, shit interior.
simonp

I never like cabrios where there is a tin top version available. Stuff like the MX-5 is OK, but these 4 seat coupes with the roof chopped off just don't float my boat at all.

I agree with GZ on both points, which is a first I think?!

I dread to think how heavy Gran's Cabrio is though, isn't the Gran Turismo about 1800kg?
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Probably nearly as heavy as the Audi Cabrio Autocar tested the other week ...

+1, hate em.

They're following along their previous naming ideas. Quattroporte - 4 door was some inspired thinking, so their Gran Cabrio- big convertible is equally original.

Get yourself down to the copyright office and claim the Italian for city car, just in case they decide that their CO2 emissions are too high. You could sell them the rights!
DaveGibson

It has always fascinated me how a foreign name can be percieved as exotic to us when, in its own language, it is quite prosaic. For example, Fiat Strada sounds interesting but the Fiat Road would be laughed at and Ferrari being derived from the Italian for 'iron' could be thought of as akin to 'Smith'.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

As epitomised by Ferrari's latest: imagine a Jaguar Britain.
DaveGibson

Well, we used to have the Austin Cambridge and Morris Oxford, not forgetting that FIAT stands for Turin Italian Car Factory.

Also:

Ferrari Fiorano = Bentley Brooklands
Giant

SEAT Ibiza, Cordoba etc - can you imagine a Vauxhall Bournemouth or Ford Blackpool?
DaveGibson

They did manage to come up with the Vauxhall Belmont and that's a TV transmitter in Lincolnshire.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

And the tallest man-made structure in the UK.
