Main stealer robbery

Today's craziness… Mrs RT's 500 is due its annual mini service that Fiat recommends for low-annual mileage Twinair models and we wanted to squeeze it in before the warranty expires at the end of this month. We bought it from Motorvillage in Marylebone but have always serviced it at Parkside Fiat in Hounslow because it's near my wife's office. This time around, my wife decided we should also get a quote from Motorvillage's service centre in Battersea as it is 10 mins from home….

Hahahahahathunk. Parkside quoted a reasonable-sounding £150. Motorvillage? £315!!! I double-checked as I assumed it musht be shome mishtake, but no.

Talk about daylight robbery. I cannot see how Motorvillage can justify charging more than double – strikes me as just cynical attempt to milk clueless rich ladies who lunch (Chelsea being almost as full of Fiat 500s as it is full of Range Rovers).

Fiat have 3 fixed price levels of service, bronze silver and gold. You can either choose or go for the recommended one (bronze or silver for 2 years and gold every 3 or something).

None of them are £315!

Was it your wife who got the quote or yourself?

Me.

On the Twinair, it's every two years unless you do under a certain number of miles a year, in which case a special "low mileage" minor oil/filter change-type affair is carried out in the intervening years.

I need to become a dealer.

Oh OK, I thought perhaps they may have trying it on with a woman phoning up; do you have a feminine sounding voice?!

The new Twingo has ridiculous servicing costs; a 3 year/30,0000 mile service plan for any Renault is £299, on the Twingo it is £690, that is subsidised too.

The Twingo has to have an oil change every 12,000 miles or yearly, everything else is a minor service (tyre kick and pollen filter) yearly and an oil change at 18k, maybe the oil on the Twingo is super expensive too.

Ha, no.

£78.32p but don't expect to use it for four weeks 😉

Seems Fiat have caught up with Alfa. The crazy servicing costs we were quoted when we had the Mito was unreal. I think the price was over £550 for the major service, when I pointed out to Meridian Milano and Bishops that it was just a posh Punto and asked how much the fiat equivalent was they wouldn't give me a straight answer.

Luckily HWM in Walton quoted the official price and then went on to say that they understood this was crazy monry and they'd carry out the service for £300 odd, still not a bargain but wasn't too much more than the specialists.

Are cars the new inkjet printers?

Fiat dealers and stupid repair prices? I'm shocked!

I just bought some oil for my wife's car. A 1 litre bottle has a MRP of £10.95 and I can get it at £9.20 but Audi "offers" it to customers at £18.90 + VAT per the invoice we have for the bottle purchased back in January.

Bend over please Sir, this is going to hurt.

Maybe Harry Enfield's I Saw You Coming has moved into cars.

When people have what they believe are captive, stupid or on expenses audiences, they just can't resist being greedy can they?
Twelfth Monkey

If I still have a complaint about the local Audi dealership, it's greedy oil pricing.

Isn't that true of all car dealershios? Oil charged by the litre, or 10th of a litre, with the price per litre being about the same as you'd pay for a 5 litre bottle in motor factors, Halfords etc ?

Yes, it is probably the single most profitable element that they sell, after the £110 an hour for the mechanic who gets paid a maximum of £15/hr. However they do need to make a profit to pay for the pretty buildings and all the staff, especially when new cars don't make great profit and they are giving Martin £20K off his next car!
Martin

That's not a cost to them, just an unrealistic list price.

I do agree with you, we expect nice surroundings and a decent experience so we can't complain when we have to pay for it and they expect to make a profit.  Not that I have complained, not really, even at Porsche prices I appreciate the extra things they do for you and the quality of service.

It's paying for a good service and not getting it that would really annoy me.

Visitor and Family  Attractions are the worst.Cinemas make a 31000% mark up on Popcorn. But the public willingly let their pants get pulled down and get stuffed up their arses

But cinemas also make roughly around about fuck all profit on the films themselves and that's before people show up with vouchers from Nectar or Clubcard so they gave to try and claw back some cash somewhere.
