Magna's cunning plan for the AstraI think I've rumbled Magna's cunning plan for the Astra. According to Autocar, the top diesel Astra 5 door will be £23k. Oh my god £23k.
Clearly, this is their plan. They will make the Astra so expensive that nobody will buy one. Then they have an excuse to close Ellesmere Port, move the plant to Germany (or Russia more likely), "re-engineer" the car and then drop the price.
Cunning bastards.

It seems most/all the major manufacturers have grossly inflated their list prices over the past 6-12 months due to 'economic pressures and euro rates etc'
For example, when I was looking at getting a replacement car I read that Ford had increased prices, on average, by over 12% in the past year - the most recent increase is just about to hit!
Agree with the OP though - £23K is a lot but it's very unlikely anyone, apart from the very first purchasers, will pay anything like that.

Will it be the twin turbo jobby they've been touting for what seems like decades?

that is alot of money but have a quick scan through any price list for a normal family hatch and most top of the range models will be around that figure.
Renault are having a 3% rise across the board from October, then there is the VAT going back up in December.

It's quite surprising to look through the price lists of mid size hatches when you discover that the 'posh' ones are often pricier than the hot hatch versions. Doubt many people go for the top of the range trims though or if they do, pay full list.

Fixed your post! It always seems to be biddies who drive very clean top spec focus/astras. Usually just once a week to the supermarket and back.

strange 'coz the Saturn Astra over here are no that expensive... I would worry about Opel/Vauxhall though, Frank got all distracted by Horse racing in the states, it didn't end well...
