love It/Hate It N° 2Well that went down like a sack o' spuds...
Anywhy, Chris Bangle, and more importantly, his designs, ranging from Fiat Coupé to BMW 3-Series. Like 'em or loath 'em?

I love the Fiat Coupe, especially in Portofino Blue, and I like the front-end of most of the current BMW designs. But I don't like the sagging sills or the bulbous bootlids. Bah.

I've grown to like/accept the looks of most Bangle BMW's over time, except the E90 3 Series or any version of the 1 Series.

Trouble is, you can't expect anyone to have a blanket view on Bangle designs; their essence is that they invite strong opinions for and against. For example, my favourites are the 1 series hatch and coupe and the 5 series saloon, and my least favourite is the 6 series, but there are plenty of people who think the exact opposite.

The X3 and 6-series are the only designs of his I can't abide. I've liked the 145 and Coupe before I realised they were his work and then they managed to make the current 7 look good after the facelift.

I happen to think the 6-series looks great.

Ones with big wheels are passable, but if you catch it from the wrong angle, particularly one which emphasises the front overhang and it falls to pieces.

Ok, ok, but it's something to do isn't it?

My point exactly, there's no "common consent" opinion. It reminds me of the then Alfa styling director (da Silva?) talking about the newly introduced 75: he said he'd rather design a car that produced strong love/hate reactions than one that everyone quite liked, because those who loved it wouldn't want anything else.
Li'ldude - you're right - we've just got a discussion instead of a poll ...

A discussion is what we need around here.

A 2 or 3 door 1er would do me fine, and the M3 looks good, if he had anything to do with it. I really really like the Z4 coupe, which I assume is Bangled.
There was a black Z4 coupe 3.0si in black pulling into a pub car park this morning that looked gorgeous in the sunshine. Its what I wanted my wife to go for when she got the TT, but I suppose one of us would have been in a hedge by now if we had.
Not keen on the E90, 6 series, 7 series or even the Fiat Coupe.
He seems to have had a pretty big influence on other stuff too, but I wonder if it will really stand the test of time and be desirable in 15 + years time?

Don't like the Fiat Coupe. The BMW X3 is excrement on wheels. The 1-series is proportionally just wrong, and looks very droopy in the middle.
I didn't used to like the current 5-series, but that has grown on me. The new 3-series is a bit 'safe', I reckon, but not too offensive. The current 7-series is awkward from the rear 3/4 view, but quite handsome apart from that... I don't like the X5 either - those bulbous wheelarches just look wrong.
I quite like the 6-series for some reason - I'd consider an M^ if I had money to burn.
But then my views don't count, because I'd never buy a car because of its badge....

I think the Fiat Coupe was a brilliant piece of design, but transfering it to the German Teutonic-ness of BMW and it just goes all wrong.

The Fiat Coupe is a stunning car. It may not have dated that well but when I first saw one at the design museum back in 94 (I think) I was amazed that Fiat had made one of the only genuinly great loking cars in years. BMW haven't had the same success. The 5,6 and 7 are all ugly to my eyes and so are the X's though the new X5 looks alright. The only success is the new Z4 coupe.

Not pushed on the 7 series. Like the 5. Hate the X3. Like the E90/91/92 the more I see them. The 6 is big and quite attractive. The 1 is ok, the 1 Coupe is quite nice. X5 screams drug dealer.
The Fiat coupe was really nice.
