Longest, Highest, Oldest

The FRV celebrated it's 12th birthday with a service and MOT pass.

Which got me to thinking, much as I've changed my own cars regularly (often thanks to company cars until a decade ago), the wife has no such boredom thresholds and thus her cars are generally keepers.

Her first car, a Metro, only stayed 2 years but since then she's had a Renault 5 (8 yrs), Ford Escort (5 yrs) and now the FRV (11.5 yrs in our ownership), though arguably for the last 18 months she's had the Mini as she drives it more than me.

The FRV at 135k miles is the third highest mileage car we've owned, behind the 328 (196K) and MX5 (presently 156K).

It's not the oldest we've owned by a long way though. I think the 328 was about 14 yrs old when I sold it, the MX5 is presently 24 yrs oldm other classsics have been 15-20 yrs old and the Dolomite was a whopping 37 yrs old.

So, what's the oldest car you've owned, the highest mileage and the longest you've kept a car?

(At present the FRV sits outside the office with a bath panel in the boot, it's practicality means it's going to be around for a fair while yet).
Twelfth Monkey

All this one - ten years (in Jan), 74k, and (rather logically) ten years.
Martin

The Sprite is the oldest / longest owned, but was off the road for a lot of that time so probably doesn't count.  If it does then the answer is 40 years old / 19 years owned when I sold it.

Excluding that.....

Oldest - Astra 1.3L, 5 years 10 months old (first car)
Longest - 520d, 5 years 1 month
Highest Mileage - 520d, 133,078

Buying a Mini is a sure way to 'lose' your car to your wife - I bought my first one when my wife had her second Ka (which she loved to that point) - every time I went to use the Mini it was gone so I swapped her Ka for a Megane 225.

Back to the question - current Mini, an R56, bought new ordered on the day the R56 was launched, is 10 on December 23 which makes it the longest owned and oldest modern car, the Sciroocco is the second longest modern owned at six and a half years, whilst our Minor is by far the oldest at almost 55 years and 30 years owned by us - also the highest mileage at 120,000 odd (at least I think that's what it is as it's only got a 5 digit odometer - the expression 'it's been round the clock' has now largely disappeared with six digit odometers).

Oldest car I've owned - the A2 (12 years old at the beginning of Jan '17)
Longest I've owned - the A2 (nearly 11.5 years)
Highest mileage - my 205 was sold at 125,000 miles on account of leaking oil at a prodigious rate which was the overtaken with the loss of 5th gear as a reason to sell. The A2 is closing in on 119,000 although it only had 2,950 when I bought it (where as the 205 had 108,000)

Oldest was my Beetle at 20 years when I bought it, but the Land Rover beats that at 21.

The longest kept was my Volvo V40 T4 at six years - had it from new until the gearbox failed.

The most miles was the Landy Rover at 203500 but the new DAF horsebox beats that at 3000000 miles.

Oldest: 1932 Standard
Longest: I think it is probably my Rover P6 3500, which I think I owned for about seven years. If not that, then the RR Silver Shadow, which I owned for six years.
Highest mileage: The Rover was up to about 130,000 when I sold it, but it had been taken down to the last nut and bolt and rebuilt at about 95,000. The Standard is showing about 3,700 miles, but I have no way of knowing whether that is second or third time around (five figure odo) or where it has been in the past 84 years.

3-million miles is a lot for a long-distance truck, never mind a horsebox!!!
Martin

Must be a typo.  When I ran trucks, they were usually on their last legs / uneconomical to run when they got to 1m KMs and they didn't have a particularly tough life.
TreVoR

Yeah, that should be 300k.
Tim

Longest & Oldest - Fiat Coupe, owned 14 1/2 years and its now 19 1/2 years old.
Highest Mileage is the current 320d at 210k although I've only done 1k of those.
Nice Guy Eddie

Longest - Porsche 993 5.5 years
Oldest - Porsche again at 22 years old when it left me
Highest Miles - The most was again the Porsche at 117,000 miles but I only did bout 25000 of those miles. The most miles I';ve done in a car was probably my recently departed Golf Gti that I covered 50,000miles in over 4 years.
Martin

Have you sold the 993?  I missed that.
Racing Teatray

Oldest: 1985"B" Volkswagen Golf 1.8 GTI.
Longest: The first Z1, which I owned for 4 years and 8 months. After that comes the M135i, which has just passed 4 years.
Highest mileage: The aforementioned Golf which had a stellar 287,000 miles on the clock when I sold it. In second place, the 500E, which was showing 312,000 kilometres when I sold it.

So did I.

The longest I have owned a car is probably my 335D Coupe which I had for just over 8 years from Dec 2006 to January 2015.

The oldest would have been my first car which was a 1969 6V 1300 VW Beetle. I had it about 18mths before it rotted away around me despite our best efforts to weld everything.

The highest mileage I did in a car was a toss up between my 8V Golf GTi and my Mercedes E300-24V, probably around 120,000 miles in each but the Merc had about 150,000 on it when sold so that was a higher mileage in total.

I sold the 993 in the summer unfortunately. It was at the stage were I would need to spend 10k doing a proper windows out respray or move it on. I had 5 years with the car, so if I was to spend the money, I'd have probably had it another 5 years and to be honest I quite fancied something new.

The Golf Gti felt a bit long in the tooth even though it was an 09 plate, so sold that too and now have a 981 Cayman. I must do a write up at some point

Wow, time flies. I remember you posting about getting the 335D, I was thinking you'd only had it a few years.......

335d is only my list of possibles for a new (another) car, possibly one of the best "real world" cars that exists?

Longest owned (well, sort of!) is a joint award to my Megane and Insignia. The Megane had 84300miles when I gave it back, the Insignia is on 84500 this evening so will probably just sneak over 85k. Highest mileage by far was my Pug 106 which had been used by my Dad earlier in its life as a driving school car. When I eventually sold it there was 166,000 miles showing on it. Ok so I didn't do all those miles but my Dad and my uncle did the rest so it was all in the family if you discount my Dads pupils.

Honda Civic Shuttle.... just under 18 years old when sold, bought new with 12 or 13 miles on the clock on 1 Aug 1985 IIRC, and used only by me then my wife after we were married.  Just under 130k miles IIRC when I traded it in for the Galaxy in May 2003.
The Honda answers 2 questions - longest owned and highest mileage

Oldest could either be "my" first car that was bought (in his name IIRC) by my dad to take me and bro to school 6th Form (1973 daf 66 from one of his old bosses) or my first purchase with my own money, a 1981 Citroen Visa II
Andy C

Oldest - 306 , 1998 s-reg
Longest -  ST , nearly 5 years
Highest mileage -  306, sold with about 125k on the clock
BeN

Well I've only ever had one car (so far), so the Lancer answers all three questions.

It's pretty old, at 15 years old this year. I've had it slightly over 4 years now, and it has clocked 310,000km, or about 192,000 miles.
Boxer6

Oldest: My oldest car at time of purchase was my Mirafiori - an 'S' plate (suffix!) I bought in 1984 making it a whole 7 years old! It had 79000-ish miles on it when I bought it and I put another 44K on in 18 months; scrapped it with roughly 123000 on, making it the highest mileage too.

Both longest owned and highest individual mileage are the Legacy; just over 8 years and nigh on 101000 miles.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

A friend gave me a Mk 2 Escort because the MOT and tax had expired, I had a drive and he didn't, and he'd just married a (very nice) woman with a new 205. That was 1990 and it was already 16 years old.

Longest I've kept car is the current one - I bought it on 31 January 2011, so it's getting on for six years in my keeping.

Can't remember the exact figure, but the M3 was at around 56000 when I traded it for the Porsche GT3.
cbeaks1

Oldest would be a 1977 Scimitar SE6, which I think would have been the leggiest too at about 160000.

The longest is still very short - I think probably 2 years or so in a Mk1 Golf GTI.
DetmoldDick

Oldest was a BMW 2002ti. Not sure of the year but they stopped making them in 1972. It had the rectangular rear lights, rather than the round ones, if that helps with identifying the year.
Longest kept and highest mileage was the Alfa 147, 13 years and 300 000km.

ETA
I have just realised the production of the Mk3 Cortina Estate 2 litre I had overlapped with that of the BMW. It was an early model with the (much nicer IMHO) sloping dashboard, so it may have been the older car.
Stuntman

Like 12th, all three questions are now answered by one car for me.  The Cayman S is ten and a half years old, I've had it all that time, and it's coming up to 92,000 miles.

The M3 holds second place on all measures other than its age.  I had a Rover 216 GTI for 15 months in 2000-01 which was 8 years old when I sold it.  The M3 will be 8 years old next April and has covered nearly 55,000 miles.
