It's gone

After 1 yr and 1 month the Golf GTi 16V has left the household.

Collected yesterday by a nice lad from Norwich who hopefully will give it the use it deserves. It is much missed in many ways but the time had come, especially as current work commitments meant it was getting very little use.

It had got to the point where there was little else I could do to improve it further and if I sold it now I could recover all my costs incurred in buying/running/storing over the last 12 months.

But I've learnt a lot from the experience:

1. How good the MK2 Golf was.
2. 19yr old cars can be solid bodywise.
3. How easy older cars are to work on, especially with respect to space in the engine bay.
4. How much pleasure I get from fixing cars.
5. I get more pleasure from the fixing than the subsequent driving.
6. If you want something for track use, don't get something too good as you'll worry about it.

So now I've got money burning a hole in my bank account and it's time to move onto the next project, but this will be a while yet as I've got too much on right now.

with a wife called Helen there was a certain inevitability to it's ownership I thought.

Gone but will always live on in our thoughts.

It sold the week before and Alex was really upset he was going to have to go to Bug Jam in a VW. fortunately the guy didn't come through with the money but that's for another thread.

With this new found cash burning a hole in your skyrocket, do you fancy helping a fellow forummer purchase a suitable engine for his project AX?

If I was down the road that would be tempting, but unless you're thinking of a loan of a flat four then I think the money's going to look Beach Buggy shaped (or track car or Capri or......)
Blarno

Capri?

Awesome!

V8?
