I don't think they want to sell this

Somewhat over confident with the pricing I think.

Blimey; dreamer doesn't start to describe that.

Unlike this, somewhat more "honest" ad:

Full main dealer history over 7 years and 20 miles?

I suppose you could argue you won't get another delivery mileage V8 saloon for 30k. You also wouldn't get one that would be worth 10k 2 days later.

From memory, the 75 V8 was a bit crap when it was new - that awful 4 speed auto blunted the teeth on the cheapo tune Ford V8. As a result, the performance was especially disappointing and the fuel economy horrific (0 to 100 mph in 20 seconds I think).

320d performance with Bentley Continental fuel economy.

I read that twice, thinking to myself that 2995 is a bit steep. Then I realised I was missing the extra 9...

Jewish Racing Gold and a slushbox - Classic giffermobile.

I suspect the S4's appetite for gearboxes is more to do with its life as a press hack than the increased performance. It's very easy to have little or no mechanical sympathy when the car isn't yours.
simonp

13 grand seems high for that S4, early ones in good nick aren't much more than that.
Frank Bullitt

I can think of plenty of ways of blowing 30k than that, wiping away last night's curry has to be an obvious one

You know there is UKIP voting beer gut in Longbridge that is sweating over that as I type though

Good job Dradus isn't around any more, he'd be frothing at the gash over that.

Also, 13k for that Journospaz hackchariot S4 is ludicrous. You can get an RS4 for a grand more.

At least Chris Harris states he has no idea what it's worth though and I seem to remember it had been fitted with something like 3k worth of upgraded brakes which, if still fitted, may bump up the value.

Still, it is steep and only cost him about 15k back when he picked it up (in truly disgusting condition at the time)
Bryan M

I'm sure I saw in octane or one of the mags a BMW Z8 (which if I remember weren't rated when new) for 350k

Makes the Rover look good value

The brakes on the S4 are Stasis ones from memory. They went bust, so it may be possible that parts will become hard to get hold of. They were rebranded Alcons, though, so they may be serviceable for a while, but I wouldn't count on it.

You can get a B8 RS4 for 14k? Show me where please!
Blarno

Ebay. And it'll be a B7 - the proper NA engined one with a manual gearbox.
Martin

Didn't the Harris S4 out drag a B8 RS4 thanks to all the mods?

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, but it would be the same if it was a one owner, well looked after car with all those mods.
Chris M Wanted a V-10

Ad says that the new 'box is teamed up with standard-spec engine, so the chips have presumably been removed.  If I had the money and space to keep such a beast, I'd be tempted.....

So was the ZT260 by any kind of sensible measure but, of course, these things have their fans. I've not experienced the slusher so I have no idea what it's like but there will be people getting all excited at that. Except the ridiculous price, of course! I still quite like the 75. Not enough to own a V8 version. The 260, though, for all its flaws.... ah, I'm getting all emotional now.

Harris' ad is great.
the other ct

The 75 is clearly great value.

The ad clearly states that it not only has 'Colour Coded Bumpers' to go along with the 'Colour Coded Mirrors', benefits from an important safety feature 'High level brake light' and the most modern of all features a 'Computer'. I wonder if it plays Pong?

so not really comparable then. But to humour you I'll have a look... nope still can't see any. Shame, I'd love an RS4
Alf McQueef

The Rover is out by a factor of 10.

The Audi is interesting - I avoided S4/RS4 on my recent search entirely because of the gearbox, and here is one with a failed gearbox. I'm sure it won't happen to them all - you wonder what % of cars like 996 911's have to suffer the issues before people write them all of I'm sure its no more than 20%, probably far less. But a massive risk compared to a ZF boxed car. One friend of mine has recently bought an RS4 Avant 2 years old, and another an S4 (very high spec with the diff and all the stuff mentioned in that ad) about 3 years old. So if they all fail I'm going to find out. Both are keen drivers and do plenty of miles.

Weirdly, the guy who got the S4 said that 80%+ of them did not have the sports diff which all the reviews at the time said was essential to enjoying the car. I bet they all had big wheels and all sorts of FG. Just goes to show the priorities of people even buying this sort of car! FG is fine, but an essential like the diff needs to be there as well...
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

I can't imagine the appeal of a thrashed S4 that's been tuned to a level that causes regular gearbox failures. RS4 every time (even the latest one)
