house renovation

We've been doing our house up for ages (2 years at least). Wanted to show you a before and after pic (the after pic is from blackberry so might not be great). As you can see, it was a little more than a lick of paint. It included:-

Re-wire
Re-plumb
New drains
Damp course
New tie-ins
re-point
kitchen
bathrooms
plastering
etc
etc

It's been a really hard slog and I'm really proud of what we've achieved.

Good eh!

Looks nice.

Mind you, if you's looked after it better in the first place you might not've had to do so much
You didn't even used to clean the windows.
PG

Looking good. I'm assuming you were not living in it when the first pic was taken?

Nope. We bought it and rented a house for 12 months.

Nice job, new windows/chimney's?

Do you have a set of drawings of the place (2d)?  Thats the sort of place I'd like to use to produce some 3d models/renders from.

The first pic if an Alfa would be descibed as having "character"

Very nice. I love sash windows, me.

That's a lovely job, Garry. Makes my current works on my old house seem like child's play (Just finished a kitchen re-furb, just about finished the bathroom, now moving onto entrance porch, hall, stairs & landing, then the bedrooms...)

Looks like an ideal place to have a Forum Christmas party (where is it located again......?)

Afraid not Mike.

The windows are original sash. Got them restored. All the chimneys have been rebuilt.

Beautiful.

Very nice. Having done a renovation two/three years ago we sold it and vowed never again.  Beginning to get the itch though...

It's terrible isn't it.
All my power tools are sitting in the garage collecting dust and looking forlorn

Living in a nice shiny almost new house (as we do at the moment) is great for so many reasons, especially when the gas bill comes in, but there's just no character.

If you're bored, my mum's house could do with re-wiring!
Roadsterstu

Looks like it was a fairly brave project to take on.  I'd love to do something similar, or a self-build, in the future, but Mrs Roadsterstu isn't too keen on the work involved and prefers somewhere ready to move into.

How much did you do yourself?  It looks lovely.

Mrs Tim does the electrics

We were going to do a self build 4 years ago.
The house we'd bought was a steel framed thing made from sections of concrete and they're notorious for the frame rusting so we were gonna flatten it.
We even bought a static caravan, put it in the garden and stripped it ready to tart up for ourselves.

But then we decided to sell the house instead

I get stuck in, but all the big jobs were done by tradesmen.  My main role was to do loads of donkey work on a weekend - stripping stuff out ready for the tradespeople to come in. I did all the garden myself. That might not sound too impressive, but we went from this:

to this:

Dr. Hfuhruhurr

And the Corsa turned into a CLS!
TimR

That looks like a lot of hard work.
scamper

The garden shed has shrunk a bit.

I swore never again after converting the barn. Now I'm begining to get the itch to do something again. Might have to restrict it to an extension & partial removal of the the big barn to give a bigger garden.

When the land that our stables is on sells for housing in the upcoming years (not until at least 2016), we are going to get a farm that needs renovation.

I would never do a big project while living at the house again.  Last year's kitchen extension drove me very nearly mad.

Is this a game of Spot the Difference?!

Looks lovely, really does.  A well-presented Georgean (I believe...) house if ever I did see one.

Exactly.

Looks like a job very well done.
By coincidence I went here on Saturday.....

possibly a useful place to visit for anyone thinking of renovating or doing a self-build

Tell me you haven't got rid of your garage!
Stuntman

I reckon you've actually just moved house

It looks fabulous.  I really hope you enjoy living there and basking in the warm virtuous glow generated by your labours and your vision!
