Here's the new RR Velar (on the road)

Wonderful spot (well, couldn't miss it) parked at Sainsburys in Rugby this evening, this prototype Velar in all it's production form glory

It's a handsome purposeful British brute, very stylish and the interior is as good as any on sale today, love the screen above the heating controls

Definitely a first purchase on a Lottery win, even over its larger brother.

TreVoR

White doesn't do the rear overhang any favours.
simonp

Parked by a cunt. Rather apt.

That really is the worst looking car they make. Every detail offends my eyes. The interior is nice enough, provided one avoids the baby shit brown that one has, but the exterior is a mess. What's with that extra black stripe running around the lower extremities?
BeN

Oh God, those wheels are shite.

White doesn't do it any favours either. Makes it look too bloated.
Nelson

the front design on the Geneva show cars have more horizontal appendages to the front bumper http://www.km77.com/fotos/Land_Ro...ryLimit=99&galleryBackLimit=8 which does make the car more attractive as this with a much plainer front design is still handsome but the sportier looks works so much better.

Agree the wheels are awful and white does look bad, but in grey with part-grey alloys and that will look just superb
Andy C

In a darker colour and different wheels, it will look great.
JohnC

Is it any smaller than a RRS? I don't see a great deal of difference.

There aren't many big 4x4's which can carry white gracefully.
tali

Think JLR are pinching sales off themselves-talk about line-up congestion!
Blarno

Not seeing handsome there unfortunately. Looks stretched.

I agree.  Looking forward to seeing one of these in the metal.  Good spot, Nelson!

Just had a quick look at RR's website and their configurator. Seems this is the base model and the R-Dynamic and First Editions come with the more striking front end. Going to have a play on the configurator now
Mike Amos

It does not look great to me, I reckon they have stretched the look a bit too much.  Time for differentiation rather than the corporate smirk.
Nice Guy Eddie

Great spot but its bloody hard to miss in that spec. I'll reserve judgement until I see one in a more subtle shade.
Frank Bullitt

Looks like the book has already been written, and the TV series;

Utterly vile, although if it's USP is to make sure the RRSport isn't the wankiest SUV on the market then it's at least had some success. Still, you can't blame JLR, while there are special people who buy this sort of shit then why not cash in.
Martin

I had a play on the configurator last night and the Velar is more expensive than the Sport (LFL spec) on a PCP

Helps to disguise the height and   also makes it look longer.

Great spot, Nelson

Horrible.

It doesn't need to look longer, it's huge!
Humphrey The Pug

I like that, probably wouldn't have it in white, however I think it looks fantastic.

I love the dash.

Where exactly does it sit in the RR range?
Sav

Chavvy-looking truck, perfect for negotiating the wet leaves of Chelsea. Soon to be tailgating you very soon.

The rear overhang is huge, a big JLR issue on recent models, it's not huge overall.  It's only F Pace size.
simonp

It's probably because it's so badly parked. On the piss, outside the lines and three foot of ugly car sticking out the back. Still dwarfs the Leon next door, though...

Still can't believe how hideous it is, it looks like a boat with wheels stuck on it!
Twelfth Monkey

Was there a baby/toddler seat in the back?
Bob Sacamano

That's lovely. I'd definitely have one.

Above the Evoque and below the RR Sport and full fat RR.
Blarno

What's with the wanky black D pillar?
simonp

All the pillars are black.
Humphrey The Pug

Yep and that's the way to do it, not like the Jaguar XJ which has just the rear most pillar in black, which looks just odd.

As the 'floating roof' has been a Range Rover styling feature for over 40 years I presume you are talking about something else? The execution maybe?
Blarno

The fact that it doesn't line up with the window line and it looks massively out of place?

Jag has b, c and d in black which could look good if it didn't also have chrome window trim!

Look at the spoiler
Michael

That's a brilliant looking car. Makes the Sport look very fussy though.
Chris M Wanted a V-10

This, plus the new XC-60; is "The age of the Long Bonnet" with us again?
Roadsterstu

I'm another that thinks that will look great in a darker colour.

Exactly that. It would look great in a lovely dark green.
Tim

That's challenging!

Didn't realise they were out already.
cbeaks1

It does say Prototype Vehicle on it...

I think you've nailed the target demographic. This has chavtastic lottery winner written over it in foot-high letters.
Michael

I can only see Prototype vehicle written in 36pt text on the front and rear. Then again I see a nice looking car, too.

I hope my BMW doesn't have "No.1 Paperclip salesman" written all over it. As I'm sure you are too.

Mine had "Paperclip Sales Director" written on it, but I insisted they remove it, along with the tacky M badges.

I tug my forelock in your general direction Herr Director.

Being an excellent seller of paperclips is nothing to be too proud of!

You don't get out of it that easily, all my paperclip colleagues inside the M25 and congestion zones are buying petrol now. Big multi-cylinder petrols. 2 door multi cylinder petrols because they don't have girlfriends.
