Getting tugged.

Me! Drove into Stourport following light traffic when all the cars infront started braking (They were doing about 35ish) ahhhhh! I see, a copper waiting at the junction turning right onto the main road.

Copcar pulls out behind me and follows... I turn left, so does he? I then pull into a carpark (Where I normally park and nip into the shops)...he pulls up next too me..

"Yer lights"
"A"
"Yer lights are dancing"

At this point I get out of the car (Still running) "I beg your pardon?"

"Your lights at the back are flashing..you know the one in the middle!"

I walk to the back of the car and I look at the registration light..nope! All seems fine..until I look up and the rear spoiler brake light is flashing like a strobe..

"What the hell is wrong with that?"

"No problem sir it's just a little offputting to other drivers.

No drama, no checks, just a quick word..how refreashing..

We then talked in length about the car and 'Him' being an evo reader and the slating of the car in that mag..along with others.

He kindly refused my invite for him to have a blast as he was on duty.

At least you didn't get a producer for defective lights.    I must say I see an enormous amount of cars with defective third brake lights - mostly brand new Mercedes with only a few of the bulbs working.

And here's a thing. I'm convinced that if the cops see's a car with ..say.. a defective light or whatever they surmise what exactly the car 'is' and the driver to some extent. Some urchin driving a modded or powerful car has a different outcome to a bloke who (Too their eyes anyway) maybe might not have all the relevant paperwork!!

I'm not saying that judging a book by it's cover is a good premuse to tug someone, just that it seems the norm..with the skyhigh insurance cost that are around today....A point that I discussed with copperman today.

Mark. His side blister indicator wasn't working as his Astra sat there with the front and rears working just fine...I noted that.

I'm sure it happens all the time - just so happens you got someone reasonable this time.  It's a shame it can't happen more often.

I got pulled in Pickering once.  The coppers followed me for a couple of miles then put their blues and twos on and I pulled over.  They told me they noticed I was speeding but that wasn't the reason for the tug.  My reg came up with a marker on the PNC.  They spent a good 20 minutes checking the car and its VIN numbers and sent me on my way with a suggestion to get it HPI checked.

It turns out that my Fourtrak had been registered on a private plate from new and the reg given to it when I had it was suspect.  Got me off the speeding ticket in any case.

To be honest. I was expecting the 'Talk'..and as I wasn't speeding (I couldn't as some half wit was dabbing the brakepedal every 2ft just incase they overcome gravity, lost traction and sped of into space) so I sat there keeping up with the traffic.

Like I said. I knew my car was in order so...Get your little notebook out if you must.

There must be more to it..him being a petrolhead..perhaps he knew that the driver would be ubove board..(Apart from the Ibiza strobs)

Given some of the cars around Stourport this was probably light relief for the plod in question

It's parked up in the driveway Simon, I'll take it to a garage later this week..*I've a feeling it's the front brakes as they are almost 'shot'.

I'm waiting for some pads I've ordered to arrive.

*Would this be the case?...anyone know?

Not my type I'm afraid...Although he was displaying some impressive weaponry!

If I understand your OP, the light was flashing while the engine was still running but the brake pedal was not depressed. If it was just the high-level light that was flashing, then it's unlikely to be anything to do with pads or the brake-light switch itself or all of the brake lights would be doing it. Looks more like a wiring fault.

Dave. As per.............you're correct, earlier today, I spoke to my younger brother (A whizz with cars) and he said it was an earthing fault.
