Formula E

Kicks off tomorrow in Beijing. First ever electric race series.

Who's going to be watching/following?

I think it's quite intriguing - have seen some footage from testing and the cars look good on track.

Interesting mix of drivers, too - LMP1/2/GT, GP2, Indycar and ex-F1 bods. They've even managed to tempt Jarno Trulli away from his vineyard.

One detail grates on me (and every purist, without a doubt) - Fanboost, which allows people to vote via social media to give three drivers an extra hit of power.

I am quite curious about the whole thing, so yes, I will be up watching the first race, and also the second race in Malaysia in two weeks time.

Me.

We're planning on watching.

Yes I know the cars are slower than dodgems and the drivers are all from the knackers yard but I agree it's intriguing.

Also agree with Eff One on the fan boost; daftness.

What channel and when?
Martin

Lindsay wants to watch it, partly because DHL (her employer) are the main sponsor, so we might give it a go.

WTF - so it's like the X-Factor finals

Ouch. That's Prost Jr off Quick Nick's Christmas card list, then...

The highlights are on ITV4 at 6pm, if you missed it like I did.

I managed to catch qualifying and a bit of the start. Bit odd really. They sound like remote control cars.

I also find it interesting that there's a Prost, Senna and Piquet on the grid. Just like old times then...

The accident on the final lap - final corner! - was nasty, scary seeing Heidfeld barrel rolling into the barrier.

Wonder what Alan Prost will say to his son? He was all smiles when it looked like Prost Jr would win,  but his lad swerving into Nick like that,  not good.

As for the race,  well there were a few good overtakes,  a first lap safety car (BMW i8) when Bruno Senna ran out of talent, 25 laps and the fastest pit stop was something like one minute 50. Bizarre seeing drivers leap out of one car into another.

It was also very very quiet, apart from a constant annoying whine. I thought James Allen was back for a minute.

Well, that was an hour of my life that I won't get back...

Tedious!

The onboard shot showed that a car hit 167km/h at one point, unless they can find some more speed I won't be watching it again.

It was like watching an F1 parade lap on mute.

I saw a 2 min clip on the news and I was bored
