I didn't understand what Whitmarsh was on about, but Autosport cleared it up. Lewis was trying to save fuel so he could run a lap further but the team weren't sure he'd done enough. By the time the message went out to say he'd done enough it was too late - he was already in the pitlane. The crew were expecting Kovalainen. Still seems to me like they were pretty slow on the uptake, though.
So - would Hamilton have won? I think it was very, very marginal. Ruby was absolutely brilliant yesterday and I'm delighted for him.
As to the others I thought Raikkonen and Rosberg were both excellent but was disappointed in Kovalainen. He's obviously mighty quick over a single lap, but needs to sort out his race pace.
