F1 Game - Germany

Three weeks to think about it this time, assuming F1 hasn't swallowed itself whole by then, or Max hasn't called off the rest of the season in a fit of pique. You need to guess the drivers who'll take pole position and fastest lap, and who'll finish in the top eight positions, and answer the bonus question:

Which of the five German drivers (Glock, Heidfeld, Rosberg, Sutil, Vettel) will qualify closest to tenth place?

Deadline: Friday 10 July 2359 GMT

Seems to have been a long time coming, this one. People diss the Nurburgring for being boring, but I rather like it - some decent fast sweepers, a couple of genuine overtaking opportunities and the ever-present threat of rain. Or indeed a flood, as we had last time out in 2007.

I think it's high time one of the 'number twos' made it to the top step.

Dammit. Glock qualified 19th. There goes my bonus...

Anyway, the answer is Heidfeld (11th), although Sutil's 7th place is incredible.
BeN

Well, what can I say, except well done Mark Webber. Fully deserved.

I feel a bit sorry for Force India though. They just don't have any luck to finish in the points.
Nice Guy Eddie

It looked like Brawn threw away a poss lead but certainly 2 podiums with there daft strategy of 3 stops.

As it happened, yes but if they had managed to pass/keep in front of their rivals, you'd be saying what an inspired move it was.

Webber - chuffing brilliant. I confess to having had a small tear in my eye when he took the flag. If they gave out trophies for sheer determination he'd have a caseful. Best of all, he didn't luck into it. He was just searingly fast from start to finish.

Some great drives behind him too - I thought Massa, Rosberg and Kovalainen all did well.

Brawn need to regroup, don't they? That was a touch messy - and with Ferrari, Mclaren and Renault all showing signs of improvement, they can't afford too many weekends like that.
ALF

I was so pleased for Webber - I've always rated him much like Button - not quite the very top grade, but well able to get the job done and win races - perhaps even championships - in the right car. Nice bloke too - I hope he goes on to more wins. Given the somewhat bizarre issues (I assume tyres?) that Brawn had in the race, it seems likely Red Bull will seriously challenge now.

I was also glad Hamilton had a puncture, because for a moment there it looked like he had suffered total brain fade!

I didn't really agree with the penalty, since he lost the place to Barrichello regardless... A certain Mr Schumacher routinely did a lot worse, if they wanted to make the starts cleaner, they are a decade or so too late because they never punished this before.

I laughed my ass off: he hit the KERS off the line and it bolted him forward; he then crossed the line and got a whole new KERS and drove like a housewife that has just seen the last car parking space near the entrance at WAITROSE

Great start from Hamilton but on cold tyres? Not a great idea!

See it below, ignore the music.

I don't think the fact his tyre was sliced apart probably helped much
Nice Guy Eddie

I thought it was great having Hamilton back, although it was only for 5 seconds, trying to pull off a great move on the first corner. We need the front of the field to be slightly more diverse then the current Brawn and Red Bull show.
SpecB

If he hadn't had the puncture the race would have been really interesting.

Indeed. What was impressive about Hamilton's qualifying performance, is that fuel-corrected he was acually faster than both Brawn cars. As a Hamilton fan I was hopeful.   It was a carbon copy of 2007 too, made a geat start, then gets a cut tyre from a spinning Heidfeld.

The Hungaroring track should be kind to Mclaren though, with all those tight corners and more updates on the way - perhaps pole position.

Well done to Webber, a well deserved victory. Despite how much the FIA wanted to f*** him over can make a farce.

So did BBC Sport as on Saturday he was all they could talk about despite Jenson being ahead of him in qualifying and, of course, leading the Championship.

JB never got a mention from them on Saturday evening

It's not even as if they have the excuse that he's Scottish

Well, Skyhook shows clearly how your fortunes can change in just one race.

A mighty 10 points taken off the leader! That leaves me ready to pounce from a healthy...... 13th place....

Did I get a deemed despite putting an entry in, or did I just score 0 ???

Edit - where did my post go? I definitely submitted an entry and saw it on Friday night and Saturday morning - I remember reading Nice Guy Eddie's comment when reviewing my prediction.  I've been done :-(
TimR

I nearly forgot to post anything but looking at the results I would've gained a point with a deemed entry

Bugger.
Big TC

1 fekkin' point....?

Serves me right for watching the race in a bar in Hisaronu, outside temp around 40 degrees C, nice cold beer in hand...
Chris M Wants a V-10

I'm still well p*%£d off about my post disappearing. I made a special effort to post my predictions on the Friday evening, and they disappeared into the ether :-(
