Nasty shunt for Sainz Jr in Free Practice 3 in turn 13. Hard to say what happened with the limited replay footage. The Tec Pro barrier does a great job of dissipating the energy of a shunt, like the SAFER barrier in America, but unlike the SAFER barrier, it gets dislodged very easily.

At Monaco a few years ago it again came apart at Tabac, but that shunt occurred at much lesser speed than today's accident.

A relative lack of run-off is a factor as well. The circuit has relatively large run off-areas in other turns that have smaller braking zones, but turn 13 has a smaller run-off area with an approach of almost 200 mph.

Found myself with some free time for today's race so decided a nap was in order. Watched the into stuff (still think it's much much poorer sans Brundle. Coulthard's grid walk in particular was cringeworthy, though the Button & Coulthard Rally cross piece was good), the start (reasonably exciting) and then drifted off. I woke up occasionally when the commentators became excited, so I assume it was a decent race, but my nice relaxing early afternoon was ruined by that gobshite Jordan shouting on the podium. Did they accidentally on purpose forget to give him a microphone?

Gutted for Bottas; great drive, great driving and passing then taken out by a very clumsy move from Kimi on the final lap, almost in sight of the podium.

Zero points seems a very harsh reward

Moment of the weekend had to be Christian Horner during qualifying on the BBC: "Eddie talking out of his arse as usual". Amusing because EJ is a clown, but I thought Jordan actually had a good point for once! The bone of contention was how Red Bull have very publicly slated Renault.

I thought it was a great Grand Prix, the second Safety Car period nicely mixed up the strategies. I feared the longevity of even the super soft tyre would make passing difficult, but the split in strategies after Grosjean's shunt made for an interesting end as those cars that had pitted under the second SC deployment started to significantly slow.

infinite monkeys etc etc...

Was this highlight better than Hamilton arse kissing Putin but then spraying him with champagne?
Bob Sacamano

I thought it was another dreadful (non)race. The sport is dying on its arse.
Scouse

Agreed. Sod off with the limited tyres, 'power units' and DRS and go back to wide track cars, high grip tyres and flame spitting 1200bhp engines with no traction/stability control.
Sav

One of the highlights of the race was Maylander getting a little squirmy under braking into turn 13 during the Grand Prix. Good to see Bernd enjoying himself. He became a busy man with all the Safety Car deployments during all categories that raced. Plus, the C63 S Estate that went to Grosjean's rescue looked rather lovely. Carbon ceramic brakes and everything.

That happened last year so I suspected he would turn up again. He looked awfully interested in motorsport. But Horner telling Jordan that he speaks out of his arse? That was unexpected but amusing as well. Just a shame that Horner couldn't nab Eddie for his other clown comments, as EJ had a vaguely decent point this time around.
