F1 Game 2014 - Abu Dhabi - the final

And so the 2014 season comes to an end, with the double points rule threatening to make a farce of the result. Thankfully, we don't have any nonsense like that in this game, points will be awarded as normal:
- guess the top ten finishers (3 points for correct, 1 point for one place out)
- guess the pole sitter and fastest lapper (1 point each)
- guess the gap between the first and second place finishers (1 point for closest)

Deadline: Friday 21 November 2359 GMT
simonp

Does anyone else get the uneasy feeling that this double points thing is gonna go horribly wrong for Hamilton? The bat-eared Germofinnish cheat is nowhere near as good a racer, but he's a jammy fucker!

Yes to this edit, but if Hamilton wins the title he deserves it; if he loses his detractors can rejoice at his year long dummy-spit afterwards.

Not as good a racer but a better qualifier. The stats never lie.

Of course we're forgetting that a DNF for Hamilton and any finish that gives Rosberg 18+ points is game over. Politically if Hamilton were to lose the title it would be better if he DNF and Rosberg is 1st or 2nd - then the double points rule means jack shit for the title.
Eff One

I hope for everyone's sake that double points doesn't hand Rosberg the championship - it will render the result meaningless to a lot of fans (including me).

11.59pm Sav? Now that really was leaving it till the last minute to see what everyone else was doing!

Well done Hamilton.  11 wins is not to be sniffed at.

Well done Nico - wanting to take a broken car to the end was the correct thing to do.
DetmoldDick

I think they wanted to bring him in to save him being lapped.
Well done Hamilton, he has driven superbly all season and has hardly put a wheel wrong.
I was half hoping Massa would pass Hamilton. It would have been fantastic to see a Williams win.
TreVoR

As much as I dislike Hamilton, that championship was well deserved.

TreVoR wrote:

Indeed; 11 wins out of 19 races, kept his team-mate behind him when driving a slower car, overtook his team-mate on track a few times.
Rosberg never managed to get past Hamilton under "racing conditions".

At least Rosberg put up a good fight. Let's not forget that Seb won 4 on the trot and his team-mate never really got close to him during at least 3 of those 4 years
Bob Sacamano

Delighted for Hamilton, well deserved. Also delighted that cunto finished well behind, both in the race and on the leaderboard.
Humphrey The Pug

The right man won and I'm glad that the stupid double points rule made no difference to the outcome.

I think this was Rosbergs only real chance at winning the championship; Hamilton will be even stronger next year.
Skyhook

Yes yes, it's all very exciting and historic with a Brit getting a second World Championship,  Vettel going to Ferrari and it possibly being Button's last F1 race,  but I think we are missing the bigger picture here and losing focus on what is really important.

Namely,  Sav scored more points than me in the forum F1 game

So in no way predicatably, Sav is the 2014 F1 Game Champion, despite posting the lowest score in the final round. So congratulations to him, he really is the Schumacher of this game (and I don't mean drooling and sitting in a wheelchair).

What would it have been with double points? and shall we all club together and send Sav on a skiing holiday as his prize...

Thanks for running this Doc, much appreciated and helps make even the dullest races watchable (well, when I'm awake!)

Ditto for the thanks.

With Model Zone now gone, it's not going to be so easy to pick a prize !

Thanks Nick. Great contest with great questions as ever.

Well done Sav. Again! At least you've proved you know your motorsport. Good stuff.

+1
Sav

Thanks chaps. It has been a while since I last won my last championship so it's nice to take it again.

Well done to the good Doctor for running a flawless game as ever. I appreciate the effort.

Despite all the disputes about revenue distribution, teams falling by the wayside and sheer dominance by a certain silver team, F1 has produced fantastic racing in 2014 imo. Races like Bahrain, Canada, Hungary and Hockenheim weren't just good for F1 races, they were great races in their own right.

Bahrain in particular is a race I could watch several times and not get bored, the skill of that wheel-to-wheel racing was mesmerising.
Big TC

So, predictably, I belatedly propose that we award double points for the last race, to mirror the GP system....

(I wonder where I would have come if I hadn't had a deemed entry a couple of races ago, and only scored 3 points? Hmmmm)

Congratulations (again) Sav. We'll get you next year!

And once again, thanks go to the good Doc for another great job organising the whole thing.

I read that this year was the first for many when Williams, McLaren and Ferrari between them failed to win a GP.... someone may have forgotten about Maldonado a couple of years back

Have had a quick look on Forix and as far as I can tell, it's never happened, at least not since all three have been entered (Williams' first year was 1975). The last year when none of them appear on the list of winners was 1967.
BeN

Well done Sav. Four time winner, in quite an exciting and close season. Much deserved.

Another mediocre year for me (not helped by me missing several races, including this last one). Shows you how much I actually know about F1...

Thanks too to The Good Doctor for your efforts too. Can we have a Hall of Fame of past winners, perhaps stickied, just for pride's sake?
