Pkh72

Sorry for any disappointment.
Stuntman

You can read all about that in the Sunday Mirafiori...
DaveGibson

Surely an Evo should be in the Sunday Sport.

I thought this was very interesting, and not just because it echoed my thoughts expressed in this thread.

I was surprised to see that the R26.R was quicker than the Focus RS around the track though, but I guess some of that time must come from the Toyos?

The 205 vs Fiat 500 "SS" was interesting too...

I enjoyed the Audi R10 article, and it was good to see the Capri again!

A good issue.

Except in the southern states of the US where it's called a Creato.

Yes a good read, shame the Escort was slightly out of sorts - the N-reg blue car Ford have,  would have made a nicer feature methinks.

Liking the Merc SL sequence on page 81....

Certainly aesthetically...

Seems to be a slightly faster standard example as well!

Although something seemed to be up with the yellow one reading the text as it overheated

Good effort on the part of the Lotus Carlton though - that's the Vauxhall Heritage car according to the numberplate and has been deliberately de-tuned in the interst of longevity. It's not running 377bhp that's for sure

That was one of the closest "battles", obviously the lap times were further apart, but the Carlton will be much softer and probably have inferior tyres to modern cars too.

It certainly didn't disgrace itself as it was over 200BHP down.

I suspect those acceleration times were for the original press car that John Barker tested in Performance Car back in the early 90s. I don't think the Vauxhall Heritage car used in the article will return those as it was somewhat slower than a few other Autobahnstormers members' standard cars in a recent comparison test in Total Vauxhall. Slowest of all I think

Sounds like I need to get this issue as it has some decent real-world stuff in it this month.
TimR

Was in WH Smith in Perth this afternoon and they're still selling the last issue.
Perhaps the delivery lorries take a while to get up the hill to Scotland.
Pkh72

I think it will be in the shops from Wednesday.
The subscribers copies normally turn up on the Friday before the on sale date.
TimR

When I subscribed mine usually appeared about the same time as the shop ones
"him"

I used to find that too, but the last few issues have arrived in good time...
Blarno

Ok, ok, how did the 205 get on against the Punto Arbroath?

Blarno wrote:

It did OK actually, they commented that on modern tyres it wasn't as "twitchy at the rear" as road tests of it when new suggested.  They didn't like the 500 much, though it was faster in a straight line.

They preferred the handling of the 205, complaining the 500 was "all about the front end".  The 500 was not as fast as expected either, your car would have no problems keeping up with one...

I can scan the article if you like?

That would be great, cheers.
Martin

Sounds like a good issue.  I'm not usually interested in the old stuff, but am interested in the Lotus Carlton and 205 GTI, cars I loved in their day.

I must renew my subscription.
Blarno

I was behind an Esseesseesse thingy the other day and it looked awful. Black, with black plastic arches and esseesse graphics writ large up the side.

The only saving grace was the anthracite Speedlines.
Jasper

I loved the article about the MX5s. It really struck a chord with the motoring I now do.

It's about the show, not the go.

Good issue this month, I'll agree with that.

That is the same attitude that created this -

He was clearly "influenced" by this, and drugs/alcohol perhaps?

Be careful with those thoughts!

Finally read this at the weekend. Couldn't help - as always - wondering why the XJ220 is so enormous: it looks like a beached whale next to the Murcielago. As to the LC's acceleration figures, they said in the text that the times for the old cars were taken from contemporary road tests - including using Autocar's data for the 220.

I think at the time excess was good; the F1 changed all that. I remember Performance Car at the time testing the XJ220 and commenting it was the same length as a 7.5 ton lorry.

However - a quick google...

XJ220

Wheelbase - 2,642mm
Length - 4,930mm
Height - 1,151mm
Width - 2,007mm
Weight - 1,372kg

Murcielago

Wheelbase - 2,665mm
Length - 4,580mm
Height - 1,135mm
Width - 2,045mm
Weight - 1,650kg

So the XJ is city car boot length longer, but otherwise they are pretty close.

Funny (and nerdily) I was comparing my 1:18 models of a Murcielago and a F430 a few days ago; the F430 looked bigger.
Dunno how accurate the models are though...
Skyhook

A few other supercars –

Ferrari F430

Wheelbase –  2,600mm
Length –  4,512mm
Width –  1,923mm
Height –  1,214mm
Weight –  1,450kg

Lamborghini Gallardo

Wheelbase – 2,560mm
Length – 4,300mm
Width – 1,900mm
Height – 1,165mm
Weight – 1,430kg (curb)

Porsche 911 Turbo

Wheelbase – 2,350mm
Length – 4,450mm
Width – 1,852mm
Height – 1,300mm
Weight – 1,585kg (curb)

Fiat Panda 100HP (ahem..)

Length – 3,578mm
Width – 1,606mm (body only)
Height – 1,522mm
Weight – 975kg (curb)

Well, I found it interesting anyway.

It is interesting.

Especially the weights given that some mag just weighed the Murcielago and discovered an extra 175kg (I think) had sneaked into it after leaving the factory.
That's a lot of hidden drugs

Better watch it on roads with steep cambers then!
Skyhook

I wondered why the tyres on one side were wearing out quicker...
TimR

Have you had your tracking checked?

Better make sure you don't burn through them in 3.5k.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Yes indeed - that's a lot of power to put through the front wheels ...

Saucer of milk to table nine, please
TimR

What width tyres does the Mighty Panda have?
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

255/25-19, I think ...
TimR

Jealousy is a cruel Mistress.

My tyres may be weedy, but they can get me out a wet field
Stuntman

Coming to Prescott then, Jase and family?
Skyhook

Unfortunately not - we will be on holiday elsewhere

And I had a tow rope sorted out and everything....

I wasn't getting at that actually.

I just wondered what your 100BHP is channelled through as my 220BHP goes through 205s.
