Donington Classic

Had a great day with Colin, Dan and Bryan. Great weather, great racing and some superb surprises in the car club/paddock area as you can see below:

Not a bad start when walking in just by the gates:

Wow:

I asked if he was the secret supercar owner on twitter/evo forums, turns out he wasn't.

This flew past towards the end of the day:

At about 4pm, we saw and heard security vans screaming through the paddock, and then 2 ambulances, and then 2 air ambulances. Something serious had obviously happened. We asked a security guard who said there had been a crash at Coppice between a Mustang and an original Mini Cooper S, with someone unconscious.

Turns out the guy driving the Mini died at about 4.30pm yesterday. Serious downer to end a great day. RIP.

Cracking stuff. I wish I had known it was on.

I heard about the accident. Very sad.

Great pics Andy. Looks like a good day out. I am very tempted by the silverstoneclassic this year

I'm looking at that. The TVRCC are doing the three day pass for two people for 100 which is tempting.

Some cracking pics Andy, especially of the Lanc! Would you mind if I shared one of them on FB?

No problem.

Tbh classics aren't really my thing but it was a really good show. When the XJR-15 was leaving, he gave it the beans down a small track road on the inner circuit. It sounded fantastic.   Silverstone classic is tempting but I think its expensive.

Remarkably non-gittish plate on the Carrera, though the orange McLaren makes up for it.

But far more importantly, what superb photos of the Lancaster.

Cheers nick .

Some more pics off my phone:

New boxster looks huge from the back

Excellent photos, Andy!

I love that black Ferrari 599 but the star is definitely that Lancaster. I think I'm correct in saying that there is only one flying example left, so I presume that's the same one that did a flypast with two Spitfire 'outriders' a couple of years ago at Prescott.

I recognise the white 997 GT3 with reg 'S1RYL' from a couple of supercar Sunday events at Gaydon. I seem to recall that the owner is about 150 years old, and is presumably called S1RYL.

There are 2 flying examples but the other one is in Canada so it's very unlikely that flew over Prescott.

There is a 3rd that is at East Kirby in Lincolnshire - the owners want to make it airworthy (and it must be pretty close to that) but I think they will have some fairly large hurdles to overcome to get accreditation.
It does 'tail-up' taxi runs though.
