Depreciation

As you know, an A8 Sport Executive was on my short list last year. ††The list price was £66k, but I could have had one for £48k and its £49k on broadspeed.  Now, less than 6 months later, you can pick one up for £37k! †I assume that means it's really worth less than £35k...which is some serious depreciation.

It's a lot of car for the money.

Unless the manufacturer's have got a massive profit margin, it is hard to see how they can keep selling these cars - I am sure the dealers don't have £18K margin to enable them to reduce the list price to the Broadspeed figure.

A bargain when compared to the new price.

Who writes these adverts?! I know much of the spec is picked from a standard list but, seriously, why include lights on warning buzzer, body colour bumpers and bag hook in boot as features? It's not 1985!!

and the buzzer is the third most important thing to say about the car!

also, we know it's an Audi. "Audi hands free boot opening system, Audi matrix beam LED headlights, Audi music interface, Audi parking system advanced with top view..."

I was thinking the same thing earlier when having a boredom induced browse of the AT app. Other than a Dacia Duster, I'm struggling to think of a new car that doesn't have body coloured bumpers. airbags too, aren't they a legal requirement? Why don't they also mention the car comes with wheels and lights? Headlight on warning buzzers are a stupid idea too. These days most manufacturers have seen sense and the headlamps just switch off when the car is off instead of the car beeping to ask you to do sort them out!
Chris M Wanted a V-10

I recall that when my dad won a driving day and took me as his partner a few years back, it was held on a disused airfield in the midlands somewhere south of Birmingham, and there were dozens, if not hundreds, of large Audis and VW Phaetons parked up, all (pre) registered and presumably all in what gets referred to as "group stock" or similar when searching for used cars.

I was told that I could have an A8 in any colour I liked very quickly, because they had a good selection in stock centrally.

Never mind that, this one has a petrol engine and five (count 'em - five!) seats!

5 seats? †That is a bonus.

It's the pre-facelift model with fairy lights and it's in old(er) man spec SE trim too, so I'm out.  If you're going to go for a petrol, then the S8 is the one.

Just looked like an A8 to me

In my defense.... it was on my shortlist, so I've done a fair bit of research!

I've always assumed these dealer adverts are computer generated based on the options specified - hence why they cover irrelevant things
PG

I'd have thought that the colour combo hardly helps the value either. I know there has been lots of internet debate about how colours look, but was that really specced in silver with a beige and brown interior? Eugh!
simonp

It is a horrible spec which probably contributes to the low price.

I always used to be slightly bemused at Ferraris being advertised as having the shields on the wing but then I discovered it's a fairly pricey extra as they're not just stickers.
simonp

Are you saying they're painted on there? I know the stripes on the Stradale/Speciale cars are, but surely not the badges?
Tim

I think they're actually an enamel painted shield that's set in an indentation in the wing, if that's the case the wings will be specific to them.
