Classic car show, Forres, 2/5/11. (Fords)

Whilst away in the sunny North East of Scotland, myself and Jo's Grandad took a trip to Forres for a classic car show. Plenty of old stuff that I know nothing about, but also a surprising amount of post 60's gear, especially Fast Fords:

Minty RS1600i, one of 3 at the show.

XR4i. When did you last see one of these?

Classic Moonstone Cossie. This was a resto project and was immaculate.

Timewarp XR3. Surprised me as I thought the 3s were all 4 speed and the 3is were 5.

S1 RS Turbo. Had the obligatory dump valve and Chunnel exhaust.

Beige RS2000.

Mk1 Fester hillclimb beast.

Mango 1300S.

NURSE! I'VE HAD AN ACCIDENT IN MY TROUSERS!

Super tidy RS2000. See above comment.

280 Brooklands.

Scorpio Cosworth BOA engined Capri. Lovely.

The Capri contingent.

Classic 'Stang cabrio.

Mango RS2000. Looked like an ice lolly. I wanted to lick it.

Custard RS2000. Would be lovely on syrup sponge.

Old Skool Barry Cortina Mk3.

Black RS2000. I assume it to be one of the last, what with it being on an W plate.

Concours S2 RS Turbo. A proper trailer queen, the pictures don't convey how inexplicably clean this thing was.

Mk2 XR2. Always loved these.

Lovely.

always had a soft spot for 70's-mid 90's Fords.

Not sure if they did a 4 door 1300 Sport though?

Back in Mid 90's me and my neighbour were a typical boy racers (though both over 25), I had a Golf GTI, he an XR3i, cue lots of discussions on which was the better.

That's what I thought, but it was lovely nonetheless. Made me wish I'd kept my 4 door 1300 GL.

You could have kept re-sprayed it yellow and stuck Sport stickers on it!

Just checked, as I thought they did a 4 dr 1600 Sport at launch but not 1300.

I really wanted a 1600 Sport when I was 18 but the insurance was a killer so I ended up with a 1600 Ghia which was the same underneath, I loved that car.

Wish I'd kept it as well, got to be worth at least 3x the 1300 I sold it for back in 1990.

Mango 1300S please, with the Mustang if I'm greedy.

There's something about the number of variants that Ford and Vauxhall have trotted out over the decades that make them so interesting.

Like the XR4i  -Yreg makes it one of the first ones
XR3 surprisingly got 5 speed as early as 1982

Last week actually, the second one I've seen in about a month - the first was on the back of a flat-bed in a sorry state, hopefully it was on its way to being righted, the one last week being driven by a grade-a nobber.

I've never been a Fast Ford man - I have a mint RS brochure and price list from about 1991/2 in the house which needs to go on ebay; it has the Sapphire Cossie (4wd), Fester RS Turbo and recently launched RS2000 in it, along with a price list; it was before the dropped the price of Cossie's, with cloth cars in the late 27's, hide bringing that past 28K!!!!

My local shopkeeper bought one new at 28k - just before the 7k price drop.
He got a punch in the face from his dad for spending the family business wonga..... and that was with his dad unaware  of the 7k price drop
