Clacton AirshowA few of the (350!) photos I took on Friday at the airshow, weather conditions were far from ideal with high winds, showers and sunshine but this made for some interesting lighting all the same! Taken using my Canon EOS400D with a Sigma 70-300mm lens.

Those wing walkers look a bit too cocky...I'd have strapped them to the Red Arrows.

I know from many previous attempts just how difficult it is to get good shots of aeroplanes, especially the 'Arrows ........... I think you've done very well!
My favourite is the last Arrows shot ..... classic!

Yep, the last Red Arrows one is poster quality. All very good shots, considering the speed needed to capture the moments.

Slow shutter speed as well so even more skill shown - I believe I read somewhere that it needs to be under 1/125 or the props will be shown as static rather than blurred.

This was my first time experimenting with shutter speed in daylight, hence the blurred props - I was advised to use 1/500 but looking at them after I think it should have been slower for a bit more blur. Trouble is the stunt planes were pretty quick and the wind was causing me camera shake too!

I've not taken photos of planes before but when I was at Le Mans last year I discovered that as you're panning in any case it pretty much negates the camera shake. I was hand holding with a 135-400 lens most of the time.

The one I like is the first Red Arrows shot, where they're all heading directly for you. Last one is beautiful too, as others have stated.

Airshow photography is something I really want to try.
The last 2 Red Arrows shots and the very last shot of the series are great. Restrained increases of the contrast (I tend to use the 'blacks' and 'exposure' sliders in Elements or Lightroom) and colour saturation and a we touch of sharpening in post processing would make them pretty much perfect.
