Citroen Saxo VTS - Wikked InnitHad a day off today to sort some Rowing Club business out down in the Wild West of Cornwall, well Penryn actually. So I lit some smoke signals and arranged to meet up with "him" whilst en-route.
I also got a chance to sample the wee little White Box. Its true - its covered in crud and looks quite good too with it - along with the black O.Z's - made mine look kinda clean.
Well, I have a small revalation to make. We all know I like Diesels. All that effortless torquey goodness. Yum yum. The whee Saxo has kinda changed me. Its performance above 4,000rpm is seriously addictive and it really goes when chasing that redline in any gear. 70mph in 5th, foot down and it pulls some - would shame some diesels thats for sure. 90mph is at 5000rpm mind!!!
Didn't test the handeling out really, so can't comment on the effect the LSD has - im happy to take his word for it though - but it rides perfectly well despite the Bilstein's that have been fitted, but I can imagine it would bring alot of fun on the right sort of twisty road - yes more so than my beloved Ford Focus. I noticed the body roll alot more when I got back in the Focus.
Reminded me in some ways of the 106 I had - when the French could make fun little hatchbacks. The steering especially - small steering wheel, loads of feedback, accurate and direct on the turn in.
The gearbox was a little weird to get used too - the difference in distance between first and third in a normal box in a normal car was the equivalent of going from 1st to 5th in the Saxo, which H informed was do to him fiddling with the, err, something or other. Either way it works when you weld your foot too the floor. Which I did a few times.
I feel a name change coming on - Rev Junkie maybe?
Twas good to meet another fellow forummer and thanks for the test drive - I think it was his plan to ween me off the black pump really.

All part of the plan...
I am glad you enjoyed it, I really must clean it (and finally sort out that exhaust before Prescott!)

Talk about damning with faint praise. How rude.
So "him", were you treated to a go in the legendary Tingtong?!

My bruv lives in Penryn - at least he does during the school holidays, he's a houseparent at a private school.
I'll be down that way sometime during the Easter hols - might be good to meet up with the Cornish posse on your home turf, if possible.

It would do, being that 5th is where 3rd is in most cars.
Did you put the fog lights on?

He would need to have more time behind the wheel before experiencing full power!
