Cheap Leasing

I know it's only 5,000 miles but around 200 a month for a new Golf R does seem to be pretty good value:

I'd heard of this. Though the website now states 5,000 miles. That changes things a bit.

I might just get away with that, few others would.

that's still not cheap enough to make me want one!

No, but it puts the VW deal into perspective, sort-of

5K a year could be doable if the excess mileage costs aren't too steep. If you did 10K a year at 5p/mile that would only cost an extra 500 over 24 months...

I am going to get one for a cheaper price

This would suit me!

Some of the manufacturer supported deals are amazing.

I've seen a Merc quote for a new 350SL with a 24 month residual value of 40,800 while a comparable quote from a well known finance house has it as 28,000 with a slightly higher monthly payment but the same mileage.
So Merc are putting at least 12k into the deal on the assumption that the finance house can get the cars at a reduced price.

Talking of cheap leasing, I noticed that you can currently get around 7,500 off a spanking new facelifted M135i.

That puts a boggo 5dr auto on the drive for 26k. Or a 3dr manual for 24,750.

That likely means under 300 pcm with 3k down over 3 years. Bargainaceaous.

It comes with business nav as standard these days, so there's not a huge need to go raiding the options list unless you really want to.

That would come over 4250 extra over 3 years compared to the total 36 month contract hire on my 25000 Scirocco (or 3250 extra if your figures include VAT).

Hmmm. Not sure a 3dr-only Skyrocket comes close to an M135i in terms of ownership but that's my opinion and taste.

Plus, of course, the VW engine is lying to you all the time

I wasn't really comparing the cars - my point was more that for a car costing 26,000  1 x 3000 + 36 x 300 wasn't particularly a good deal - if you see it as getting an M135i for those payments whilst ignoring the big discount, then it seems better.
Racing Teatray

I never said it was 300. I said it was "likely under 300".

It was not a post about contract hire rates, but rather about the levels of discount available.

366 a month for two years and nothing to show for it at the end seems quite expensive to me. Am I missing something?

Edit :ok, didn't see the "R", maybe not so bad after all.
