Car magazine getting on its high horseAm I the only one who finds it teeth-grindingly annoying when Car has to tell us in EVERY SINGLE F***ING FEATURE that they are the "first magazine in the world" to drive this car/bring us this exclusive news? Especially when they're wrong, as in insisting that the RS5 will have a twin-turbo version of the RS4/R8 engine. Check out their site for an embarrassing climb-down ...
Case in point: the current issue, which went on sale at the end of April, claimed they drove the Murcielago SV "months ahead" of any other magazine, and yet, in the issue of Autocar published in the last week of April, they had a drive story on the SV.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Car frequently did get stories ahead of other magazines, especially concerning new supercars - that was why it was essential reading for me. But they didn't feel the need to boast in this witless way, they let the articles speak for themselves.

It's the same with papers, world exclusive, worlds first interview, and it's in every other paper too.

But Car seems particularly prone to it, to the extent that it becomes annoying, in a way I've never noticed with Autocar, evo or PC.

Car Magazine on it's high horse? Never!
It's been shit since it turned itself into an automotive pseudo-GQ.

It's occurred to me that the front cover of CAR now looks like those shite celeb mags that women read, with lots of clues to what's inside the mag.
Those celeb mags always seem to have the cover emblazoned with crap like how some racist pop starlet will give her coloured footballer husband one last chance for the 20th time, etc.
I really dislike the layout inside CAR now. It's irritating that they start articles in their news section halfway across a page and carry it over to the next one.
I've no doubt it's very cleverly thought out by some advertising/design types but it just gets on my tits.

At least they still have page numbers - gets right on my tits when magazines are too cool to bother. What am I supposed to do then, start at the front and count?

To be fair Autocar and Auto Express have been just as guilty of this in the recent past. I don't know why they do it, what manufacturer would let a specific mag have exclusive rights to their new flagship model? The editors obviously think we're stupid. Although looking at how mental Chas Hallett looks in his new pic in the front of Autocar, would you argue?

But even when they do have page numbers, a lot of magazines don't put them on the full page adverts, thereby leaping from page 34 to 72 or some such.

Really funny last week - they'd been going on and on and on and on and on about how their "exclusive" on the Audi RS5 was spot on, only to have to climb down and say, actually it's not twin turbocharged after all.
