CAR letters page

Dunno if anyone else has red the latest issue of CAR but the first letter is from some buffoon going on about Jaguar's brand 'value' of the last 20 years being one of unreliability.

He goes on to cite the Series III, XJ40 and XJS as being the prime culprits

Taking the 20 years literally means the Series III was out of production (apart from the V12), the XJ40 got superceded within a few years by the X300 - by all accounts more reliable - and although the XJS soldiered on until 1994 I'm pretty certain it was pretty decent by 1989.

Maybe CAR had lost the letter behind a radiator for 15 years but really they should be ashamed at publishing such shite.

No doubt the letter writer would inform any Italian car enthusiasts that their steed is a rust bucket too.

Wonder what kind of pre-late '90s Merc he drives?

Yeah, the JD power surveys that always appear to reccomend Jag's was in my mind, it seemed a very poor letter and a poor choice to publish.

When my Dad was looking at X-Types, I found links to Jags coming out high up the Auto Express Driver Power surveys, too.
Gooner

So how did the XF top the driver power charts this year then. What a tit!

As I mentioned before, magazine letters pages are havens for twats.

I agree but just because the twats write in doesn't mean their letter has to be published.

Totally agree with that, however most magazines seem to pick those for publishing, presumably in the hope of generating more correspondence.

I'm surpirsed he didn't add that the X type is just a glorified Mondeo and that badge engineering is totally stupid and that the Germans would never do it, nor the French, or the Japs.

I agree but don't you wish the magazine would also respond? One of the reasons that I no longer buy autocar regularly is the shite in the letters page that has me shouting at the mag in my hands "anyone who knows anything about cars knows that's bolllocks so why aren't you putting this dick in his place?" They only seem to respond when someone dares to criticise their precious magazine.
Matt

Even when Autocar do 'respond' by selecting a letter as hate mail, it was completely unjustified when Twelfth's recent missive was selected as such. Totally undeserved considering some tit claimed Audi had ruined Lamorghini in the first place.
