C3 Picasso - Emperor's New Clothes?

Warning: "is it just me or ..." alert! But everyone is raving about this car, in particular its styling, and yet I can't see the attraction. Maybe when I see it in the metal I'll change my mind, but at the moment, it looks a particularly ungainly vehicle, and at a time when Citroen have started to make some real lookers. The front looks like two cars piled on top of each other in a scrapyard.

FWIW, I don't like the Kia Soul either, though the Nissan Cube (in last week's Autocar) looks a whole lot better.

I like it and the Soul too, I've seen both on the road and they look good in the flesh too.

I've been a fan of the cube for years aswell.

Ditto, not seen one in the metal but I do think it looks a tad ungainly. Saw my first Soul the other day which is fine, would rather have a Yeti though.

After having the GTA towed 3 times out of the field we were camping in (Isle Of Man) I am starting to pay close interest to vehicles with ground clearance and a modicum of offroadability.

I have, for some time now, wondered if Autocar's staff need to go to Specsavers. Various cars which they have described as good looking strike me as ugly in the extreme, the C3 Picasso being the most recent example. To me, the frontal treatment of the C3 has something of the Cayenne about it and nobody would describe that as good looking.

Not often Autocar will write this: 'So we can forgive its dull performance and handling, leaving only its uncomfortable driving position as its one serious flaw.'

There is an mildly illegal looking road test video on Drivers Republic extolling the virtues of thrashing one of these rather than a supercar.

Despite being a fan of historical Citroen's, which means I'll forgive them plenty (quite liked the Xsara, for esample...), I have to agree on the C3 Picasso - it looks like an utter dog and seems to have a too-many flaws it's larger bretherin don't fall foul of.

However, more worryingly I love the Kia Soul and my wife is smitten too - really nice car inside too.  If it weren't for the lack of funds (well, will to spend) then I could see us getting into a Soul 'Shaker'.

There is a brilliant 4-way test in CAR this month with the Skoda Roomster and Daihatsu Materia - brilliant because it's penned by Ffrench-Constant who never fails to engage my tiny mind.

A couple who live up the road from me have a 58 plate C3, they were crap when they were launched!

The C3 Picasso is another car that once the "fickle spotlight" has left it and moved onto something else, will be viewed more realistically.  As an awkwardly styled, forgettable hatch.

Much like the C3!
