BMW 530D SE

I decided to change my brake pads same for same as I couldn't get my hands on a local supplier who had either Mintex or anything other than unnamed brands or helfrauds.

While waiting for the lady in the service area to get off the phone, I noticed their second hand car list.

I've been interested in a 530/535 for a while but have never driven one so spoke to a sales rep and 10 minutes later, I was out in a 530D Saloon complete with automatic gearbox.

First impressions were that if I went for a 535, I'd have to get used to the automatic gearbox again, that was a bit weird, even though I've used it before in the current 325 Coupe.

The engine really surprised me. It was the first 6 pot diesel I've driven and I'm amazed at how smooth it is. It was very torquey as expected and the noise was alot more pleasant than many petrol engines that are currently for sale.

The car felt fairly quick off the mark and picked up speed at a decent rate so I imagine overtaking would never really be an issue.
It didn't feel big either, certainly no bigger than my own even though there is a class of a difference.

It was on 18" tyres and was more comfortable than my own car over rough roads.

The price was ok too, it had dropped about 40% in two years and was with nappa leather, bluetooth and a few other bits, colourwise it was sapphire black with the piano black trim inside.

I really liked it, but will look for a touring if I go for one.

On an aside, I saw the new 750i which looks better in the metal than the pics, an X6 which looked pointless beside the 7 Series, and they had an '08 M3 Saloon for sale as well- maybe I should have tried for a spin in that instead!
