Awesome - I wonder how many more they would have sold if Mazda offered a V6 as an option. 240 bhp + that soundtrack.

The V8 Miatas are mega - something about all that engine in a tiny car is very appealing.

Funnily enough I watched the Car Throttle video an hour ago.

The Flyin Miata V8 conversions cost 15K or so, so the idea of spending 6K on the Jag v6 is very appealing and i'm sure more than enough power.

A friend of mine has just homebrew turbocharged his Mk2 MX5 and on only 8psi of boost it's a bit of a beast.

Far easier to just buy a Boxster

Easy isn't always fun though. I like the idea of a sleeper MX5 that can take some serious scalps.

My thought too.

Built not bought as they say.

Agreed, the MX5's USP is the lightweight, low power high-feel combination, start upping the power (and brakes and suspension) and it's a new animal.

The beauty of the LS engine swap into an Mx5 is that the LS engine weighs the same as the iron block 4 pot it already has, so the weight distribution and feel is not lost. Plus you have 300+ bhp.

I looked into swapping a T5 into an MX5, still am looking into it, and a lot of people trotted out the old "The engine will be too heavy/the handling will be ruined/the weight distribution will be destroyed. The T5 engine, with all its ancillaries (several that won't be needed) weighs 10 kgs less than the standard MX5 motor....

That's a fat 230bhp straight out of the box. Yum.

I had a turbo'd 1.6 Mk1 and a supercharged Mk2 1.8. That was magnificent and would give an S2000 a fright.

Thankfully not everybody wants a Porsche though

Right.  Having watched the V6 video I now have a plan to kidnap my dad's Roadster and V6 it. It's that or a Caterham...
