Audi A6 2.0 TDI Avant - PassengerI had a journey down to Bromsgrove today in an 08 plate A6 Avant. I didn't get a drive unfortunately, just a passenger ride.
I've never really been in an 'exec' car before (does a VW Jetta count?!), so I didn't really know what to expect. However, my thoughts briefly were:
Amazing amount of space all round in the boot and cabin, with lots of leg and headroom in the front and back. The seats weren't particularly comfy, however.
The dash looked good and felt very well screwed together, with a simple design that works well, coupled with a screen in the dash that houses the 'multimedia centre' that was very easy to use thanks to a little rotary control in the centre console.
On the road, the A6 was a relaxed and refined vehicle. I'm not too sure the size of the wheels (they didn't look huge), but the ride was quite smooth; smoother than I was expecting anyway from Audi. Saying that, I can't say what it was like on rough surfaces as it was mainly all motorway. There was also minimal wind and tyre noise at a steady cruise on the motorway. Even the slightly ageing 2.0 VAG TDi was near silent once warmed up.
One thing I really did like was the digital speedo that was present on the trip computer. There was still a conventional analogue speedo and rev counter, but having the option of a digital speedo in the computers menu was quite helpful I found (even as a passenger), especially going through those dreaded 50mph average speed cameras. It was rather large and clear, but not obrtusive, and I found it was quicker to glance at that, rather than the analogue one. I don't think I'd like the idea of just a digital speedo like you get on a Citroen Picasso, but having both certainly works well and I'd happily have both on a car of mine in the future.
Hopefully I'll get to drive it next time so I can see what it's really like to drive and give a proper review, but I was impressed mainly by the vast space on offer, aswell as the pleasant and ergonomic layout of the dash.
I might have to try and blag a drive in a 5-series now. You know, just to compare them

Had an A6 courtesy car a few years ago (2.0TDI SE Avant) and thought it was perfectly nice - rode well on 16's, comfy and smooth, save for the engine which felt a bit out of sorts; much prefer the V6 diesel which a neighbour has.

Or if you want a ride in a proper A6, then pop down to Bristol and ask Colin for a ride!

I actually got to drive one of these (a saloon, not an Avant) last year...... read my thoughts from the driver's seat here:
