Ari Vatanen for FIA boss?

According to the Beeb AV is considering running for Presidency of the FIA as a challenge to Max (I presume) since he feels it's time for a change.

Why did he wait so long?

Has he lost his MEP seat?

Anyway I don't think he can do a worse job than Max has for the last couple of years and since I presume he isn't in cahoots with Bernie F1 might not dominate matters quite so much (hopefully) if he gets in.
Nice Guy Eddie

Great Stuff AV has always struck me a thoroughly decent bloke.

Trouble is will he win the vote. It's a bit like the IOC making the decision on who's to host the Olympics, so plenty of room for Max to bribe the delegates from the various member organisations, who've always tended to support him.

Under those circumstances AV might struggle a lot.

Sadly the short sightedness of the politics of these kind of bodies means Max will probably get in.

Hopefully if he does there will be a bit of a backlash and a few FIA supporting worthies may be replaced with more sport interested people.

It is even worse than that! Max has made changes to the way candidates apply. It virtually makes it a closed shop arrangment.

Basically you need to assemble a 22-strong 'cabinet' before the election and if you are listed in one cabinet you can't be in another.

This put Max in a really strong position as he'll pick the 22 best/most popular people in the FIA each of which will surely have votes and influence over other votes. Madness!

A bit more detail here.

I remember from last years shenanigans that every country has 1 vote so if it's the USA with 10 million members - 1 vote, if it's Andorra with 1,000 members - 1 vote.

That's how he managed to stay in last year as, by membership volume, a majority wanted rid of him.
