Anyone believe this will ever happen?

Councils are to be given powers to stage motor races on public roads for the first time, it was announced today.

With the kind of greeny risk averse arseholes who tend to populate our councils these days, I can't see it getting much traction.
Nice Guy Eddie

I filled out an online proposal earlier in the year without much home that this would get attention. Good to see the efforts of everyone who did this not go to waste.

I look forward to the return of the Birmingham Superprix.

Had a quick read of it on the BBC website but they've managed to make it a London centred story

I can see it being used to make it a bit easier to close roads for events out in the sticks but otherwise nothing major is going to come out of it.

I can think of some fantastic hillclimbs. We might even get some of the hillclimbs they have on the continent where they run for about 5 minutes instead of the 30 to 60 seconds we get at the current UK hills.

As a boy we used to go and watch a hillclimb on the old Rest and Be Thankful road and I still remember being sprayed with bits of tyre from an E Type as it took off at the start line. They had to repair the road surface to allow traffic on it again because of landslides on the new road so the surface might be good enough.

Big TC and perhaps others will be able to attest to it being a great road.
