Excellent

Brilliant.

I bet if that had the normal gear box,  people would actually be trying to put down a deposit.
Twelfth Monkey

That's brilliant, and brilliantly British in not taking itself at all seriously.

I love the fact that they went to all the trouble of doing this.

I also (not surprisingly) would actually buy a Mini in the bright green colour - looks great.

Very good, though a Hipster Mini would surely have a record deck instead of/as well as a cassette player

We must have the hippest house in hipster ville.

Not only have the boys installed my old sound system, complete with turntable and twin decks in their loft room (it used to be called the playroom but I'm not sure thats suitable now they are teenagers, perhaps it's the Xbox/TV/PC/Pizza with mates room), Big little GBB then installed my brothers old system in his bedroom, then promptly bought some old hi-end turntable of Ebay which involved me driving to Nottingham to collect it).

The E39 had a tape deck rather than CD player, perhaps I was just ahead of the curve (as they say).

A true hipster would be well aware that there is a cassette revival going on right now.
Chris M Wanted a V-10

If only the cassette deck option really was available......
Bob Sacamano

You forget what a pain in the arse cassette decks were - fast forwarding through to try and find a track, fiddling with the settings and the Dolby to try and get rid of the hiss, fishing yards of crumpled tape out of the machine, finding a pencil to tighten up the spool. Kids just look at you blankly when you tell them about it.
Twelfth Monkey

Tape was shit.  Resurrecting something shit to prove how 'authentic' you are only proves that you are deeply foolish.
simonp

Well, the fact that two "artists" who have recently released their new albums on cassette are Kanye West and Justin Bieber proves your point rather succinctly, I feel!

Cassettes were pretty shitty quality, I'll give you that, but they were a huge step forward in ICE over an 8-track as you could at least "burn" your own cassettes. But they were of their time.

What next? Black and white cathode ray TV's making a comeback?

Nah, they're onto Minidiscs now...
Chris M Wanted a V-10

I have hundreds of cassettes and very few CDs... and almost no MP3 tracks.  I also have a minidisc player at home, and some minidiscs......
Twelfth Monkey

Chris, you are not my image of the hipster, but you'll have to take up the mantle on the forum's behalf!

Where does one put the beard oil and brush?!
Chris M Wanted a V-10

Before the days of the internet, BMW used to run some great spoof adverts in the national press. I used to write tongue-in-cheek responses rather than just cutting out the coupons and posting off for brochures, and always received an individual response written with humour, recognising that I had spotted the joke and responded in an amusing way.  Full marks to them and their ad agency

Is the sat nav merely replaced with a road atlas with locations of breakfast cereal cafes highlighted?
Twelfth Monkey

Hipsters must be the new Amish.  Amongst a great many other things.
gooner

I saw a hipster burn his tongue the other day. He tried drinking his tea before it was cool.

I had a Minidisc player in the M3 - great technology!
simonp

I think I might have a Sony HU in the garage somewhere...
TreVoR

I have a minidisc player in the garage.  I used to have one in my Volvo and the Combo van I had around the same time.
simonp

Still have my recorder, too.
Dr. Hfuhruhurr

Me too, and a huge box of MD compliations.

I had a Mk2 MX5 Jasper Conan Black. Aside from Connolly leather and deep pile carpets it had a Sony Minidisc deck. I can find my Minidiscs but I seem to have lost my Minidisc recorder.
