Looks pretty much the same up front, but that rear end looks so much better now. Bears more than a few hints of the Tesla Model S.

That's an attractive car. I'm sure a hybrid version of this Panamera will be a car that gives Tesla a few headaches.

The v8d they fit in the Cayenne must be on the cusp of 400 bhp and 700+nm.

Indeed, I still see hints of Quasimodo. Are they definitely making the estate?

Perfect in every way.
Gorgeous, (now) elegant, desirable, practical (I'd like the option of a 3 across the back seat seating option - that might be a pain with one child and then wanting to take parents out or 2 friends) but that's nit picking

Ive just been watching some of the stream from the live launch.

It will have a twin turbo V8 diesel with 422hp from launch, along with the 4S and Turbo, all with PDK.  There will be 2 plug in hybrids to follow.  The Turbo has lapped the Nurburgring in the same time as a 997 GT3 and it sounds pretty good too.  

Fantastic interior.  You can have a full length panoramic sunroof, but it's still a strict 4 seater unfortunately.  The only thing that doesn't look quite righ inside is the main Sat Nav screen, it looks a bit big (it's 12.3"), but at least it's built into the dashboard.  The smartphone style buttons in the centre console are interesting, wonder what it looks like if you don't have all the options, presumably better than the old setup.

Must be looking at wrong pics - all i see is a mildly facelifted Panamera.

Pics look encouraging. It's still a dog taking a dump (© Mr J Clarkson) but they have softened it. 991 rear lights  also nice but a shame they are so similar. Talking of copying, it does remind me of the stillborn 989.

It wasn't mentioned, but they won't want to take any focus away from the standard car at the launch.

Impressive performance figures for all the launch engines, particularly the diesel which gets to 60 in 4.3, 100 in 10.4 with a 177mph top speed, yet does 36mpg on the urban cycle and (in theory, I always use the urban figure) could do 42mpg combined

The Turbo gets to 100 in 8.1 seconds.

It's a good improvement on the original car, IMO.  The new Turbo is gobsmackingly fast, it has done a 7:38 lap of the Nurburgring!

Hmmmm. I don't know if the elongated 911 look works. Perhaps they should have gone for brotwagen look instead, as per the Ferrari FF. The 911 rear is what gives it the strange "dog shitting" look. But then it wouldn't have Porsche "identity" if it didn't just look like a 911.

An estate (fancy Porsche name for a wagon yet to be decided) has been spotted testing and should be more suitable for those baked goods. I suspect it will look better too and may even have a rear windscreen wiper...

I'm not seeing a huge difference in that from the previous model, enough to make existing owners want to go out and change but probably invisible to non-spotters.

Im sure I remember the Skyline R32/3 being the first production car to lap in sub 9minutes in the late 90s, which was seen as a huge landmark. Times these days are amazing.

It's on the UK configurator.  I got to £108k for the 4S diesel, without going mad at all, pretty much just matching the 535d spec but with bigger wheels. That's a lot.

I went over £140k for the Turbo.

Don't you mean the panameramic sunroof? The interior is indeed lovely and no blanks! the screen needs to be even bigger and merge into the dials and maybe continue over to the passenger side to give them something to look at/play with as per the Ferrari FF

That could well be what it's called, but more likely it will be the PPGRS (Porsche Panoramic Glass Roof System).  It's not on the configurator.

I am not really sure on the looks (having seen all the launch pics) or touch sensitive console buttons, but it's appears to be a fantastic overall package of ability and luxury....However, the pricing is ludicrous - £92k and you don't even get a reversing camera, I got into six figures just putting the basics on it.

It would have to be on another level to drive to justify that kind of cost. Given the level of Jag discounts, I can't see past an XJ diesel for effectively half the cost, or an XJR and a lots of change.

On a side note, the Porsche configurator is complete shit - how they think it's an acceptable way for potential customers to tailor their purchase is beyond me.

I'm curious to see if there is anything clever about these as regular touch sensitive buttons in a car would be a disaster. You get no positive feedback when you use them so you have to take your eye off the road. Not a good idea in any car let alone one of this performance.

CB - Have you tried the configurator in 3D mode?  Huge improvement and makes its the best one I've tried for seeing the impact of options and what your car will actually look like.

It will be interesting to see what the touch sensitive buttons are like and how they operated, but surely they can't be any worse than having to faff around with your navigation screen to do basic things like put the seat heaters on?  A decent voice control system is probably the best answer.

I've just been reading about the 4-E Hybrid.  It's £79k, so £12k less than the 4S diesel, although some of that gap is closed when you equalise the spec.  With a combined 460hp (330hp V6 petrol / 136hp electric motor) it gets to 62mph in 4.6 sec, 99mph in 10.7 sec and on to 172mph.  Only 56 carbons.

Very impressive.

Unfortunately even if I keep the options to a minimum, I get to £98k.

That's not good.

I know they're not popular on the Forum and it's nowhere near as nice as the new model, but I've got a lot of want for a Panamera Turbo.  They look great and surprisingly at home on the circuit and sound lovely.

Not sure why anyone would take something so lardy on a circuit no matter if it was surprisingly at home (relative to other hefty saloons I presume?).

I know circuit performance has become a standard measure in the performance end of the car magazine world but I always skip past those bits as being irrelevant.

Yes

It was the pace car for the BTCC and Carrera Cup races, but was standard.  Well, I had a look at it in the paddock and it was far from standard as it was dripping in options, but it looked like a standard road car (number plates, no cage etc).  The doctors car following the pack was a Cayenne Turbo and the driver got a massive cheer when he drifted it around Luffield.  It looked like it started off as a mistake, but he kept the throttle open and made a good job of it.

Porsche has just announced a Turbo S E-Hybrid which will sit at the top of the range.  It's the 4.0 V8 from the Turbo with a liquid cooled battery, tech from the 918, 4 wheel drive and standard ceramic brakes.  That means 680hp, 627lb ft, 0-60mph in 3.2sec, a 195mph top speed and 50km electric only range.  It will be expensive, but that's a pretty impressive set of figures.

Seems  reasonable to me considering the performance and technology on offer.
