2017 Honda Civic

I was thinking only yesterday what a pretty car that 3dr Civic with the split tailgate of the 90's was. This looks like a Korean design from the 90's:

Looks like a bad copy of one of Merc's Korean copies!!

Is that just a massive facelift or is it a new shape already, surely the current one has only been round for a couple of years?
Big Blue

That is grotesque.
Martin

Horrible

Looks a right mess; Honda is struggling in Europe, so I am told, this won't help.
PG

I'll be the lone voice then? It is an improvement over the current one to my eye. The longer wheelbase (well it looks longer) helps balance the shape.
Roadsterstu

It looks huge.

You are correct; current one is a dog, this though still looks a mess.

I really have no idea where Honda are going. Not a good place, I suspect.
Frank Bullitt

Isn't this the US version though? I'd like to think it will look better next year on the UK but then the new Jazz looks like a 25 year old Hyundai so perhaps not.
PhilD

I've seen this in disguise and the proportions and overall shape looked good, but some of the details look very heavy handed in these pics. I have a particular problem with fake mesh grills and this seems to have plenty. The grill looks good on the HRV so maybe this will look ok.

The side profile just looks slightly odd and more like a saloon coupe than a hatchback. Reminds me of the MG6. The front just looks like the bonnet hasn't been shut properly.
Stuntman

That looks utterly dreadful to my eyes.  I like the current Civic, this new one is terrible.

Another hideous car from Honda.

For several years now their car design has totally lost the plot.

Some of the worst cars I've ever driven have been Hondas. I don't understand their decent reputation they get.
BeN

Honda has lost it for quite a long time now (although the Jazz is pretty good). Hopefully the new NSX will change things.
cbeaks1

I saw a new Prius today. In terms of looking extraordinarily shit it takes the biscuit.
Grampa

I just knew it was going to be awful before I even opened the link.

Agree on their recent designs, nothing I like remotely other than perhaps the new HRV.

Our FRV drives well for what is basically a medium sized people carrier, no major expense in 130K miles is what the reputation is built on.

Nowhere near as hideous as anything Toyota make. If ever there's a company that has lost its stylists to some form of insanity it's them!

In some ways it was a "tidy-up" and modernisation of the mid-1980's Civic. I still find it hard to believe that Honda abandoned the Civic Shuttle "theme" and even today offer nothing like it in the UK, although the Jazz Shuttle is available in some overseas markets and is now into at least its second iteration.  How to lose loyal customers.....
Big Blue

Wait till you see the new Fiat Tipo. Bland doesn't cover it....

Was the shuttle a big seller, with loyal customers to lose? I remember it as a quirky niche vehicle. The fact they didn't stick with it until the market exploded was a mistake in hindsight but I'd be surprised if it was thought that at the time and bringing it back now would be far far too late in the day.

I think the Civic Shuttle customers just reached an age and infirmity where driving was no longer an option and sales dwindled to near zero.

FRV targetted a younger demographic but also failed to sell.

From what we can determine a lot of that down to lack of awareness, many people comment on ours and the amazing amount of interior space but say they didn't know they existed.

Owners seem quite loyal to theirs, judging by those I see locally (all owned by the same people since new from what I can tell).

Lack of a BMW/Audi badge might also be a hindrance.
