'nando out of Australia

All very strange; advised not to drive three weeks after an accident that supposedly hasn't caused any medical problems.

Wow!

I am flabbergasted, as will W2.0 be. This is either some severe medical cover-up the like of which has never been seen or Fernando has said: "I want to see how cunty that car is in a race before I step back in it."

If it's the latter expect to see him in a Mercedes in 2016.

I don't think he looks very healthy at all in the recent pictures - maybe it's the increased facial hair but whatever we are not getting the real story.

Maybe getting together with Ron again was like dating an old girlfriend again - it's only when you're back together that you remember all the reasons you have to be apart.

That'll be the death knell on next years Mercedes then. He doesn't seem to make the smartest of moves career wise does he.

It is a great shame that Alonso won’t be racing in Melbourne. Knowing him he would have dragged the car to a decent result on the Sunday. Not to be cruel, but this opens up a great opportunity for Magnussen. These types of situations are what the third driver is for, but having had a full year’s experience of these current regulations in 2014, he should be competitive in Melbourne in relation to Button.

Magnussen has expressed an interest in racing outside Formula 1. He wanted to drive the GTE Corvette with his dad at Le Mans, but that driver line-up has already been finalised. Hopefully he races the new 650S GT3 in some races like the Spa 24 Hours and other Blancpain events.

The whole thing is weird - other drivers were saying that was not somewhere you would expect someone to crash, observers say it looked like he was not in control of the car at the time, there were conspiracy theories about him getting an electric shock - etc etc.

So anyway after all that money they head to Australia with a worse package and the same drivers as last year. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt the car will run long enough to exacerbate any issue he has anyway.

There's a piece in Autosport about it, and similar (more sensationalist) stuff elsewhere: he was concussed heavily enough for retrograde amnesia (allegedly having forgotten the last 20 years when he first came around) and although he's fit and healthy again, another head injury now could have life-threatening consequences.

And let's face it, he might as well stay home and let Magnussen spend the weekend trudging back to the pits in Melbourne.

I can see why now qualifying has finished!

I have a nagging feeling that we won't see him in a McLaren this year; just given what the guy is like and the current performance of the car.

It is a sorry state of affairs when, as a McLaren supporter, I feel pleased that they finished the race in last place!!

Nando toeing the corporate line as always...

Five live had a good stat on Alonso today: he is only 8points short of being a five time world champion.

Might be a while before he makes those points up!
