I've just had a cold call from a company called Elite Calls, offering me line rental and calls somewhat cheaper than BT.

Their fast-talking caller told me they weren't 'the usual' type of telephone provider where you're switched from being a BT customer, and their website appears to support this in that they get the bill at commercial rates and then re-bill the customer allowing them to offer a lower rate.

My concern is that they actually are one of these companies which persuade people away from their existing provider, and as I use my landline as a business number (albeit on a residential tariff) I can't afford any loss of service if something goes wrong.

Has anyone used or come across Elite Calls, and should I even consider going across to them?

Cold Callers from outside the big names such as BT, Sky, Virgin Media etc would never get my business, as I'd always have that sneaking suspicion. I've had three calls from a company called Vonage who always start their calls with "we'd like to talk to you about your broadband service" and then you expect to hear the BT name, but no, you never do.

In the mobile world there are lots of examples of people swapping to these cold calling low cost providers only to find that (a) the low cost is not there and (b) they never cancel / move your existing contract so that you end up with two bills. I'd stay well clear of all of them....
