We tried this once before and went way off target with rambling tales.  This thread is purely for defining the terms which we use on here.  No waffle, or else.

Mat has said he will sticky this, and the format should be something like

"NSFW - Not Suitable For Work"

A term put into topic headers to inform other users that the topic contained within might be of a nature unsuitable for viewing at work.

Example

NSFW Woof Woof's birthday party at "Madame Pain's""

'Buy a Mac'
The answer to pretty-much any question of a technical nature, in any field of technology.

EG:

Q: 'I'm having a bit of trouble with our kettle at home. It's just not heating the water the way it should.'
A: Buy a Mac

'...needs boiling.'
Suggestion as to the fate of anyone who insists on doing or thinking something patently heinous/stupid/pathetic.

EG: Anyone who thinks the Perodua Myvi wouldn't be so bad as a daily driver needs boiling.

Looks like a Lexus

Stock reply to any new car on the new car thread.

ie. Dan posts a series of photo's of the new Bentley, for example, someone will always reply with "looks like a Lexus", as all new cars somehow have a Lexus look about them.

Two related ones:

"FG" stands for "frippery gayness", which means pretty much any optional extra, especially ones that don't improve the car's dynamics.

"Scamper-spec" means a car that has more FG than Julian Clary's closet - i.e. one that has had the whole options list thrown at it.

Girl's car
Mazda MX-5. And Scamper, as in 'Alright, Girl's car? Pint of Bugatti?' (Bugatti ale is the nectar served at Prescott.)

LOL = Lots Of Love....

...and you know what I mean by "love," right?

When viewing the forum it's worth keeping in mind that ALL things somehow relate to sex. This is perfectly natural and is a part of the normal human condition. Cigars are never simply cigars. An injection system is never simply a part of an engine. So, when you think about pistons moving in well lubricated cylinders and get rather excited, you know why. You're a perfectly normal car loving human.

"doing an alan" means finding a double entendre in just about anything. Or just gratuitously mentioning summat related to either sex or various perversions thereof.

And for clarity, "woof woof" used to post as "alan".

IIRC, IIRC stands for If I Remember Correctly, a term I am using with increasing regularity due to my advanced age!

Can we stick to forum-specific terms? IIRC and LOL (whether correctly described or not) are commonly used, Web-wide abbrvs.

Or Prius.  And there is no H in Weenie!

If this thread stands as a long-term intro for newcomers, it will require some judicious editing, Matt.

Doing a BeN, now possibly replaced with Doing an Alan, which is what you do when you decide to take a 'forum holiday' for an inderterminate period of time.

Period of time can be as short as 1 day (BeN) or as long as several weeks (Alan).

But, you MUST come and rejoin the forum at some point.....

Doing a Plummster

Like a simmering volcano, entertaining from a safe distance. Usually goes into meltdown on a quarterly basis, followed by a lot of ranting and a ban. To reappear at a later date after deportation fron NZ.

RDQ 01/01/2008

Required daily question.  A question asked by one member, normally of a totally random nature, nothing to do with cars.

Examples of questions include

"What is your favorite xxxx?"

or

"Have you ever done xxxx?"

or with Alan

"Have you ever been caught doing xxxx while xxxx was xxxx to xxxxx and xxxxx, managed to xxxxx (turned that it doesnt come out in the wash) and vegetables.

ECT Snow Mode.

This may be mentioned when any obscure question is asked. It alludes to the question, 'Does anyone know what ECT Snow Mode does on a Lexus RX?', placed on the original Autocar forum in 2004 by a poster called Ravi. The question was never answered but the thread extended to several hundred entries covering everything but the original question.

Not getting an answer, Ravi re-posted his question and asked that the thread not be hijacked. This, inevitably, resulted in the thread being immediately hijacked.
