Is that how you spell it? Taking joy in the misery of someone else?

There's just been a crash outside my house, I looked out the window just after it happened, a blue 206/7, a primera of sorts and a red Nissan Primastar van were involved.
I don't know how it happened, it doesn't look too serious but there's a huge element of shaudenfrade to it.
Last night on my way home, I was cut up by a very badly driven red Nissan Primastar van who had dived from lane 3 across the carraigeway to cut across me doing about 30mph above the 50mph limit as I was leaving the road.
I didn't beep or anything until we reached the lights at the top of the sliproad. They went green and we sat there, the driver was texting on his phone. I beeped, he moved and drove on.
I could see him clearly in his large van mirrors.

The same bloke is at this moment, looking very worried, walking around his van, which doesn't look too badly damaged but is on the wrong side of the road, diagonally across the kerb.
The other driver is an angry blonde woman.

The police got there fast, within about 5 mins, the fire brigade and ambulance have arrived but I think everyone is ok.

Schaudenfrade. Sometimes better than boiling.

Indeed. Are the penalties in Ireland for mobiel phone use similar to  here, Rodge? Or more akin to the I.o.M. - 6 points and £1000 fine.

Similar to here, then.

Perhaps the Isle of Man isn't as backward as some would have you believe - their penalties for mobile use have been thus since before I left in 2000.

I didn't do German and before I read the original post I didn't have a clue what "shadenfreude" meant and had never heard of the word.

Anyway hope he gets done if he was on his phone but he probably won't as It'll be too much hassle and as we all know it's only speeding that kills anyway!!

Getiing really anal now...in German it is Schadenfreude and in English schadenfreude ie in German it is capitalised; being a feminine noun.

So my spelling of 'Schaudenfrade' is really a sign of a misplaced u then (And an a instead of an e)....

I did German in school too

It's a pity it does use an 'e' not an 'a' near the end, otherwise I could have borrowed from Morecambe and Wise and said you were using all the right letters but not necessarily in the right order.

(It's 44 years since I did German 'O' level.)
