|
|
| I see quite a bit of interest in tyres on here so I thought I'd mention that there is a test of about 12 different makes in 205/55x16 size in Auto express today. Includes Contis, Bridgestones, Goodyears, Michelins etc right down to Wanlis and Kumhos |

Summary was...Good on dry track, aquaplanes too easily.
Looking at the results, it was mid table on most things but a bit poorer on the wet disciplines |

Need to get front tyres on Saturday, as the ones on it are getting low and it's scrabbling already in the damp.
215/45/17s, so I'll probably take a bath on the price.
Won't be getting budgets, regardless. _________________

Oh
I need new tyres for the front of the Fiat and they're a similar size (205/50x16) but after a couple of scary experiences of Continentals I've sworn off them for good.
Looks like it'll be Falken 452s unless I can track down some more Goodyear F1 GSD3s. |

I guess different tyres suit different chassis/drivers. I've quite 'gelled' with the Conti Sport contacts on the 328. They seem to suit the car/my driving and although they're not as good in the wet as F1s i think they hold up much better in the dry when I tend to press on more. I'd like to try Vredesteins and Falkens when I can. I'm loathe to change from the Contis just yet though - thing with tyres is you know you're going to be stuck with your choice for a long time. It's a leap of faith into the unknown. I'd like to see some Falkens in an Autocar/Auto Express/EVO tyre test...particularly the 452 as many people really rate them |

Mind you, the test was carried out at Continental's proving ground. I doubt that there was any bias but one would hope that a tyre would suit the test environment where (some of) its development was carried out.
The Goodyear, in second place, was also recommended. |

Yes, they usually rely on one of the big tyre makers loaning their facilities, esp for the wet weather proving. Continental and Michelin proving grounds have been used for a lot of the mag tyre tests
They ran the last test of 225/45x17 tyres at Michelins but it didn't mean the Michelin scored as high as some of the others

I had some Vredestiens on my Punto HGT and they were pretty poor.
They were the 'designed by Giugiaro (sp)' ones.
Mytyres do Goodyear F1s in my size for £86.50.
The Falkens are £62.
I think I'll try the local tyre emporia. |

The Vredesteins usually do pretty well in wet tests. Think they did OK on the EVO tyre test but IIRC they were Ultrac Sessantas |

| Mine were the original Ultracs from about 2002 so I suppose they've improved them since then. |
