This thread is for the rules only - I will start a separate thread for each race for you to post your guesses.

The object of the game is to predict the top eight finishers in the race, the drivers who get pole position and the fastest race lap, and to answer a bonus question which will be unique for each race.

Points are awarded as follows:

3 for each correct finishing position

1 for each finishing position out by one place, e.g. if you guess a driver in third place and he finishes second or fourth. This includes guessing a driver eighth who finishes ninth.

1 for correct fastest lap

1 for correct pole position

1 for correct bonus question (there is no "nearest guess" - if nobody gets it right, no bonus points are awarded)

Deadline for entries is 2359 GMT the Friday before each race.

If the race result is changed (by protest or disqualification), the points will be recalculated accordingly.

Pole position is taken as the driver who starts the race on pole. A driver who sets the fastest lap in Q3, but is then demoted because of engine change or other penalty will not count.

If the driver who sets the fastest race lap is subsequently disqualified, the next fastest driver will count.

If a driver misses the race following an accident in qualifying, your guess will be taken as his replacment, where applicable.

All data relating to number of laps completed, classified finishers, pit stop and lap times will be taken from formula1.com

If you forget to submit your entry, you will be awarded a "deemed" entry: this will be equal to the lowest scoring "proper" entry for that race.

Note that there will be no deemed entry for the first race, as it is only awarded for existing players who have (for whatever reason) failed to submit an entry.

If you join the game any time after the first race, you will start with the same points as the lowest scorer at that point.

Ooh, harsh rules on the deemed entry there, Nick! It'll encourage participation for each race though, because you'll forfeit the chance of three points straight away if you go for the deemed entry.

No 'late entry' rules/deductions this year?

Thanks for running the game so successfully last year Stunters, it was fun and good luck Stevie. I take it you'll be following the Dan template of the organiser being mysteriously top of the league every race (until Sav flukes it)

A quick suggestion - how about a post in General to drum up a bit more trade - especially the new forum members who may not be aware of the game.

And can we have a recap of last years standings?

I've just realised that I've forgotton to include either Renault in my predicted list of the top 8 - I could leave it as it is, I suppose, and hope that Alonso takes Piquet out at the first corner....

Another quick question. Reading the rules, it seems that you don't get a point if your driver finishes anywhere in the first eight places. Is this true?

Example - you say Kimi will finish second but he finishes 5th. Zero points or one point?

Zero - you only get a point if you guess one place out. For example, Massa finished second in Brazil last year, so you'd have got:
- three points if you had him finishing second
- one point if you had him finishing first or third
- no points if you had him anywhere else in your top eight

You DO get a point if you guess a driver in eighth and he finishes ninth.

Just a thought. It hasn't been done yet, but how about awarding a couple of bonus points to the first person to correctly predict the first 8 drivers in a race?
It would be a unique occurance and in that case, I think it would warrant a few extra points.
