I'm not usually a fan of the, "it looks like a..." game, but there is a lot of Passat in there.

Quite like that actually. Not what I'd have expected from a Renault saloon. Could be an ideal replacement for the siggy at the end of next year.

Except they're not going to try selling it here.

Hence why I thought they were Passats when I saw three disguised ones in Hastings a few weeks back!

If it isn't coming here, I wonder why they were testing over here.

I like that, it does have a hint of Passat about it and also Kia Optima; both good looking cars.

Would be pointless coming here though, it wouldn't work, that market is dead unless you are a German.

I can only assume they came as its a local(ish) representation of third world road surfaces!

I bet your place is glad it's not coming too - presumably you would be forced to take some which would just end up become demos/directors' cars and end up being flogged off at a massive loss.

It's a shame the market perception for this kind of car as turned into 'German or it's no good', but I guess that's what happens when cars are bought as a fashion statement rather than on the basis of being a good car.

I like the look of it two BTW - Passat maybe, but a better looking one.

That far more interesting than the Passat. I rather like it. The interior kicks sand in the face of the Passat and anything else I can think of in that class.

That is a tidy looking car, very attractive indeed. The market is smaller than it used to be but I can't believe Renault couldn't make a success of the car in the UK, the Laguna always did well until the last one was launched largely, I suspect because that car looked awful and wasn't as accomplished as its predecessors.

They're right not to try to flog it here. I don't think the market for this car has been entirely killed by the Germans, more that the class below has grown to make bigger cars a bit pointless. Biggest problem for this will be the exterior writing checks the interior can't cash - it looks cheap especially around the centre console.

I like that, especially the interior although that size screen would take some getting used to.  I don't know why it wouldn't sell either, there are still plenty of Mondeo/Vectra/Mazda 6/Passat being sold.

The last/current one did woefully due to a) the predecessor's awful reliability; well mkII 1st gen, so no fleet company would touch it and b) it was called Laguna so was saddled with the awful reputation of the mkII 1st gen; Renault UK wanted to call it something different over here to distance the car from the previous one but Renault France said "NON!".

It is actually a very good car; allbeit a bit bland.

I like that, something I coud never say about any of the Lagunas. The Renault nose design has scaled up well and the overall shape is pleasing to the eye. Not too fussy and yet more interesting than a Passat.

That interior is clearly the uber-top one. And looks OK in the photos, but the screen aulity will be key. But I'll reserve general judgement until I see a photo of the cooking versions.

I really like that. Could be an interesting second hand buy at 3 or 4 years old.
Are they planning an estate?

I hadn't managed to summon the interest to look at the pictures, but that's not a bad-looking car at all. Stupid name, but better than Levorg I suppose.

I noticed that too - I can't imagine how horrible a car this size with a 108bhp engine would be to drive.

Surely no worse than the large VWs with the 1.6 105ps diesel (Passat and Superb must be pretty sluggish with that motor).

If you can (could?) get a Volvo V70 with the 1.6 Diesel engine in a our DS4 this will be just fine - it'll have about 180 torques so as long as you keep the turbo spinning it will be perfectly decent; trying for 30-70 in top won't win any awards of course. Plenty of Talisman size cars are available with such engines (VAG products as noted, Pug 508, Citroen C5 and DS5, Ford Mondeo to name a few)

Can't imagine those are particularly pleasant either - I don't mind a low powered small car, and I've only driven a handful of low powered large cars, but whilst they probably have similar performance to a low powered baby hatch, I have not found them nice to drive - there's just a sense of not having enough to carry the weight around.

The irony is that in such cars you have to drive them in such a way to get any sort of reasonably acceptable performance leading to real life economy no better than the models equipped with 2ltr engines.

Talisman is a stupid name, but one I'm surprised hasn't been used before, it has all the right connotations as far as marketing is concerned I would've thought.

Saw one on TV last night and thought it looked rather smart - taking a look at Renault's current range on sale in France, they have some rather nice looking cars that either haven't reached these shores yet or are not coming: https://www.renault.fr/?ORIGIN=F6...f-exact&utm_term=renault%20fr

They also have some great trim-level names, better than Dynamique, Expression etc that we get:
Intens
Zen
Business

I'm still dumbfounded that the new Grand Scenic cannot be specified in the lovely gold colour that is "reserved" for the normal 5-seat new Scenic - not just in the UK but from your link, in France too

Forgot to mention...

But I saw one of these Taliwhacker things in Berlin in October...

I got a million spotters points for knowing what it was from a distance - my " frog toss " early warning system never fails.

Twice. The new one is called the Insignia Grand Sport.

This new Renault takes the Audi/Mercedes/BMW model of making photocopies of smaller models and upscaling them by 10 or 15% to new heights. It looks so like the Megane that I'm starting to wonder if the photos are the correct ones!

edit: just noticed this thread is 2 years old!!
