You are clearly reaching that time of life where having long fingernails is of great use...

...my body is seemingly sure that longer eyebrows will help me in some way?

I have problem nails and eyebrows.

My nails split and so do the ends of my fingers and it's painful and my eyebrows have been very brittle since I had chicken pox, dunno why, they snap if I dry my face a bit too hard with a towel.

That's down to poor diet, Alan. Are you vegetarian? It's a common problem when people try to become vegetarians by just cutting out meat.

Years of bighting my nails means they don't really grow before loosing strength so I keep them very short.

As for eye-brows, my wife often notices huge grey hairs in them.

Bob, I'm pretty sure it's not my diet. The finger end thing pre dates my vegetarianism and might be my version of something my sisters both have. I forget the name of it but it's something to do with blood vessels, they get frostbite it they're not careful and although I don't my finger ends split. I have to put cream on them whenever they get wet. They eyebrow thing only started when I had chicken pox and has baffled the doctors I've asked.

Apart from that whenever I have a medical I get told how perfect I am. As I've mentioned before, I am apparently the ideal size and shape etc for human and all test results are just what they should be.

I think we need to start a "fingernail photo" thread, so that Doctor Bob can diagnose our ills...

I find mine grow really fast when it is warm.  As does my hair.  As I grow older I am discovering more very long stray eyebrow hairs.  My stubble has a lot more grey in as well but my hair has been going grey since I was 18.

Might it be Reynaud's Disease, Alan? Sounds like what a friend in the Isle of Man has; quite debilitating in cold weather, so I can imagine winter just past must have been agony for her.

That might be it. Caused by cold and emotional stress says Wiki...God knows I've had enough emotional stress in my life.

My sisters have both suffered mild frost bite multiple times and have to be careful but luckily I seem to have been spared that and I don't tend to feel the cold much. Clear nail varnish helps when it's bad.

Never trust what a doctor says in a medical. My father had a full insurance medical for a new job which pronounced him A1, 6 months before he died of a massive coronary.

FWIW, I had weak nails and fingertips that were forever splitting and added fish oils, selenium and zinc to my diet which cured it. I now have very strong  fingernails and no cracking or splitting skin. Iron from meat is important and it's a little known fact that not everyone can be vegetarian - through evolution a significant proportion of the population's bodies are unable to break down vegetable matter to extract the necessary nutrients and so need some meat in their diet.

My dads hair is still about 90% black and he is 55.  So thats good news for me though i have got my mothers hair.  -  Not literally of course.

As for my finger nails mine are pretty good for a bloke, i dont bite them and use clippers on them about once a fortnight.  If i can feel them catching things i have to cut them.

Your nails are growing faster because it's summer. Vitamin D is being poured into your body all day and that makes your nails grow. Hair too.

It's a fucker when you play the guitar and have to cut your left hand nails every day!

Mrs Scouse bought me a t-shirt the other week with quite a deep 'V' neck. Then found it hillarious that it showed off the thick grey patch on my chest wig perfectly.

As a rough rule of thumb, men's hair is likely to follow the same course as their maternal grandfather (Mum's Dad).

I'm 32, been thinning on-and-off for a few years and been having increasing numbers of grey hair since my early 20's.

My Mum's hair went white (not grey) when she was 16...

My dad's hair was pretty much black until after he had a heart attack at 59.

I noticed a sparkling silver hair in the middle of my chest recently.
My wife regularly trims long eyebrow hairs and I'm thinking about getting one of those Remington things for trimming nose hair.

Dunno what to use on the ear hair though

I could have sworn I saw a bald patch on the back of my noggin last week. I have instructed Jo to tell me immediately if my hair is thinning, so I can Bic the lot off.

No greys for me.

Shit! I'll be nearly about to drop dead then....

Still, 42, no grey hairs, no receding line, no baldness. What are you going to do?

I, ahem, have a nose/ear trimmer (you can use the same gadget ffor both). its sprouting from bloody eveywhere and i'm 46. my beard is almost all silver and my hair is 50/50. I'm denying the southerly spread of greyness as well.

My nicky clarke beard trimmer works well on ears and snout as well...

Can I recommend this?  It may look like something you'd expect to find on Anne Summers website, but no.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-N...ore&qid=1275034631&sr=8-1

Many of them will occasionally yank a hair out, which both hurts and brings tears to the eyes.  No problems with this one!
