Took a trip to Oulton Park for a couple of hours this morning to watch a couple of mates tracking their respective motors: A Tiger and an ex-Cup SEAT Leon racecar. We were joined in the pit garage by a race-spec E36 M3 and, just as I was leaving, an early 90's Audi 80 Touring Car. There was some serious tackle out and about in the paddock and on the track, notable mentions going to the nutjob in the 997 GT3 RS who was monstering everybody and the balls-out Pug 406 on steelies! Unfortunately, my camera died very quickly, so pictures and videos are limited.
This is what 12k buys you:
250+ Bhp, fully adjustable suspension, datalogging dash, airjacks and brakes to die for.
You remember Metslow? This is the owner's Dad's Tiger.
2.1 Pinto with 4 Kawasaki carbs, adjustable mapping and waste spark.
M3 racecar:
Audi 80 Touring Car:
1.8 8v turbocharged Golf engine, 400 Bhp on 'sensible' boost, 700 possible!
The rest:
Generic Saxo?
Hmmmm...
Aaaah!
Because a mid-engined, stripped out Saxo with a 2.0 Type R engine isn't enough, it has a Rotrex supercharger too!
A little clearance please!
No idea on specs, but it was quick and had a dog 'box. Whined like a kicked puppy!
A fat Datsun.
Noble M12 GTO3. I only saw this out once, driver had a bit of a moment.
F430 Somethingorother, wasn't seen on track.
Radical? There were 2 of these being run by a proper race team :Team 360.
F360 Challenge car.
SL65 Black. 250k!! Belonged to one of the Team 360 bods.
TVR Britcar racer, based on a Tamora from what I could work out.
E60 M5 towcar and my wheels for the day, Impreza WRX.
Next time, I'm taking my hemet and getting a passenger ride in the Leon, possibly the M3. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose.

(the thumbnails have no "clickyness")
That Leon looks superb...
How far away from "road legal" would something like that be? _________________ Remember - A gym without chalk is a heath spa... |

I only have video because it was never off the track! He just kept going!
I'm trying to upload them now.
Matt, I knew you'd like that intake. Genuine carbon, too. Sounded really good, lumpy as hell at idle due to the cams, but a proper wail under load. Surprisingly less metallic sounding than a normal M3 six.
I'm hoping to get back there in November with the SEAT and M3, and also in December with another guy I know. I don't know if you remember the ropey-looking silver Cavalier from last year's pictures? He's doing 3 days in December, along with the ropey-looking E28 535i that was there when I crashed.
Seeing all this action makes me want to pull my finger out and get Franc going! _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

The lad with the VTR engine wasn't at the trackday, which I thought he was going to be. No major panic, I want to get the cage built first. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

A few videos. Apologies for brevity and lack of quality, Scorsese I am not:

Leon doing it's party trick.
I won't upload the Audi videos. The quality is so shockingly bad, it's not even worth it. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |
