On Saturday we had just left Kirroughtree forest near Newton Stewart and pulled on to the A75 from Stranraer going towards Dumfries, we were following some mates and had two cars following us, as we rounded a corner we noticed a lot of mud on the road, then noticed a motorbike (Yam FZR 750) on it's side in the verge/ditch and the rider just starting to sit up.

We pulled over and ran back to see if he was okay, not knowing what we would find, he was stood up by this point and a bit winded but seemed okay apart from being a bit shaken, although he was wheezing abit which made me suspect he could have damaged his ribs.
He was covered in mud and his bike wasn't too badly damaged, the fairing was only good for scrap (what was left of it) and the clutch was knackered, he managed to start it up after removing all the earth from various places but the clutch was belching out smoke galore and sparks.

Whilst we were making sure he was okay a lad came running towards us, he had been in front of the biker and seen him come off, they weren't speeding, turns out he must have lost concentration and somehow clipped the inside kerb, which had then tipped him off, all the mud on the road was from the bike digging in after he had come off.
He was so lucky though as the verge he landed on was really soft earth and he just stopped short of a big road sign that wouldn't have shown much mercy had he hit one of it's posts.

The lad that witnessed it had already called the Police and Ambulance so once they turned up we made our way. I didn't want to go before this point because i wasn't 100% happy he was okay and his bike was rideable and if he had come off again as a result it wouldn't have been good.

Hope he was fine and made his Ferry back to Ireland okay, it could have been alot worse.

Funny - I'm sure I saw the aftermath of this incident recently on the BBC - a programme called Real Rescues... The scene you describe is eerily similar to one of their 'featured' rescue/incident.
