100 Greatest Drivers' Cars - look away if you don't want to know the winner ( at bottom of post! )

My friend's car in at 22!...but a bit surprised at the order of the rest, Escort Cosworth ahead of the Sierra(?) ( and a 4wder at that ) although it's all subjective

Quite impressed by how quick the TT RS is .... 11.1 to 100

And for Racing, a new Fast Fleet entrant, lightly used 135i that they're going to work on to get close to the new M3 laptime-wise

Will be following the development of the 135i and old TT with interest

Surprised the Escort Cosworth manages to break into the top 100. Didn't the Vivster say it was shit when he compared it with the Focus RS a few issues back ?. Slow, horrid engine, etc, etc

The order they placed all the cars did seem a little bit odd. The F355 when it was launched was seen as the best drivers car ever and yet it only comes in 91st place where as the 612 comes in 20 places higher.
I'm surprised they only placed the Macca F1 in 71st but I guess the top ten were made up of cars they knew they could get hold of.

Out of the rest, I've driven a Golf Mk2 GTi, and Exige and a Diablo. (Although that was a 2WD SV, not a VT)

Number 4 caught my eye - Caterham R300. I drove one at Bedford and it was ghastly. Very fast but I felt like I was going to fall out at every corner, and couldn't avoid pushing two pedals simultaneously. And I'm not all that big (6 foot, 11 stone).

I've never driven any of them. In fact, the only one that I've even been in is the Mk 1 Escort RS2000. I've also been in a Mini Cooper S but it was 1966 registered not 1963-4 as listed. Both were owned by my landlady's son when I lived in lodgings in Derby.

Lionel was a very nice car to drive, I'd love to be brave enough to get a Rallye, but they're far too fragile if you haven't the skills of Spannerman and build all the parts yourself

I've owned or driven none. The closest I've come to any of them is driving an M3 and a MINI Cooper.
I've been passengered in a Mk2 Golf GTi and two Mk2 RS2000's. My dad owned those three when I was a nipper.

just looking again at that list ..996 gt3 so high up...this is a car that as far as I have been told is completely unusable as a daily car...i mean truly uncomfortable to drive on the road...yet no 997 gt3 (yes they have the rs but not the regular one) and no 996 turbo (maybe they all burnt up).

I agree with most of what he says as well, Alfa are far too 'Boulevard' for me at the moment. All show and not much go. Interesting to learn the other day that the GM V6 and 4 cylinders were foisted upon Alfa as part of the Fiat/GM deal and Alfa engineers absolutely loathe them.

Still, no excuse for the belated introduction of the 1750Tbi not to mention the non introduction of the twin turbo diesel - been in a Saab for ages.

It seems they also have a V6 diesel on the stocks which makes equivalent BMW/Jag diesels look filthy CO2 wise. Again if so where the hell is it.

Far too slow at bringing new tech out, same goes for MultiAir.

To me the Megane looks bloated and top heavy, the Scirocco far more athletic.

I don't like the Scirocco now, familiarity has not improved the looks, quite the opposite. The Megane is just awful, especially the special edition one with the randomly tacked on bodywork. I saw one last week and talk about looking like it had driven through Halfrauds!!

The Alfa GT is probably the most attractive car in the current line up, well second behind the 159 Ti perhaps. However, the interior........

The Scirocco, like the Passat CC, starts well at the front but goes rapidly wrong as you head rearwards. The new Megane is just foul though, in both 3- and 5-door form.

Finally read EVO 135 yesterday: a bit disappointing, actually, the top 100 took up most of the magazine but didn't actually have very much substance. Perhaps half the staffers were on holiday.
