I have the Megane 250 pricing:
Renaultsport 250 Cup: £21,995
Renaultsport 250: £22,995
Among the many options avaialble I will pick the ones that you will really need, or at least the car should have and will base it on the standard non Cup version:
Renaultsport Cup chassis pack and Recaro seats (limited slip differential, stiffer springs/dampers/anti-roll bar, 235/40 Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, grooved brake discs, red brake callipers, 18" 'AX-L' alloy wheels in satin black) £1,950
Renaultsport visibility pack: Bi-xenon headlamps with headlamp washers and auto adjustment, Electrochome rear view mirror, Electric heated wing mirrors, LED daytime running lights £750
Metallic Paint £395
Arkamys 4x30 RDS radio with single CD and Bluetooth and multi-functional TunePoint £650
A grand total of an eye watering £26740
A bargain then!!
WTF are Renault doing? _________________ Mummy, Daddy, Sissy, Sassy Baby. |

Does the "standard" 250 Cup get the LSD and chassis mods but NOT the Recaros?
You have to pay extra for tw@t lights, that is to be encouraged... you can then see at a glance who the real tw@ts are! _________________ Remember - A gym without chalk is a heath spa... |

Some of the options seem pretty steep.
£1950 for replacement suspension, wheels etc.?
I know that's cheap by German standards but you're effectively part-exchanging the bits so surely the price should be full cost of the option parts minus the value of the bits you're not using?
Unless the new bits are made of something expensive?
Also, surely electric heated door mirrors are standard on all cars nowadays?
I know my 1986 had them and I'd certainly expect them to be on a £23k Renault.
I don't know a lot about ICE but £650 for that doesn't sound (no pun intended) like a good deal.
I've got an aftermarket Alpine stereo in the Fiat and it cost £210 and appears to be better than that.
What discounts will people be getting on these? |

The upgraded stereo isn't all that great either.
Haven't a clue on what discounts will be available but I can see the Megane going the same way as the 197 did, nothing happening for a good 18/24 months and then Renault realising they have fucked up and either offering huge model bonus money or up-speccing the car.
It'll need to be a fantastic car to cost as much as it does.
The R26 in May 08 was £20095 _________________ Mummy, Daddy, Sissy, Sassy Baby. |

Not bad for a French car.
Obviously I got a bit carried away typing there. I should've said my 1986 MG Maestro |

A screaming advert for the Cup version, then. None of that crap listed is necessary. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

I don't think 9 months is going to change much! Metallic paint, a fancy stereo and poncy headlights won't make it any more enjoyable to drive. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

Buy the Cup, spend a few hundred quid on a stainless exhaust, because knowing Renault, they've made the standard one out of papier mache, a bit for insurance and spend the rest on holidays and trackdays. _________________ Arms held out, in the Jesus Christ Pose. |

| I'm well into my 40s and I'd take the Cup Pack every time. Think I'd add it to the standard car though, as I like a bit of FG too! |

£26k should get you into a 135i if you're not too bothered about FG, you could have an S3 with some options and it is Focus RS money. I can't see it selling well at that sort of cost, even £22k is too much. _________________

Steve Sutcliffe:
It looks dramatic, it drives in a far more mature way than its predecessor, the level of specification is near unbeatable at the money, and it’s quick enough to make a Focus RS driver think very hard indeed across country. So yes, for £22k the Megane 250 RS seems like a lot of car for the money.
He seems to think it's priced ok. _________________ Mummy, Daddy, Sissy, Sassy Baby. |

Thers a video now of 250 v Focus RS. Sutcliffe really likes the Renault and says its much more everyday than the R26, but it is slower than the RS (as you'd expect with 50 PS less) on the twisty road in the vid, and the final choice is RS.
The 3 door is a big improvement in looks over the 5 door, though I'm unsure about the rear end.

| It makes sense that it's more everyday that the R26, since that was the second evolution of the old Megane, after the basic 225 and the Cup. |
