I'm rather surprised we haven't had a missive from Sav, telling us that Dario Franchitti won the IRL title again this year. By winning the final race on Saturday, he overhauled his two rivals, Ryan Briscoe and defending champion Scott Dixon.

The race was more like the Shell mileage marathon then a blast to the flag but well done Dario.

Great result for Dario, especially considering after his dismal 2008 season in NASCAR and had a incredibly talented teamate Dixon this year.

The race itself was something of a surprise, with no caution periods whatsoever. It was an on-going battle between Dixon and Briscoe that was superb, but in the background was Dario who was not as fast as the other two, so elected to save fuel - which means he didn't have to make a final stop where his title rivals did. And because no caution came out, it was plain sailing from there. If their had been a caution, it would have been three cars for the title all close to each other...

Mind you, few would have predicted a caution-free race.

Dario was better on the road and street courses than Dixon, that is where Dixon lost out imo. Better improve for next year, for the first time in history - the IndyCar schedule will feature more street/road courses than ovals.

(good decisions to run the race on Saturday, no point in even trying to compete against NASCAR for TV ratings)

In other words, he's actually capable of driving a racing car around a corner, not just hanging on the longest in a 200mph dick measuring contest.

+1

Despite having lived there I can still not see the fascination the Septics have with driving round in circles.

In those parts they just say "are you from back east?". That suffices to cover all manner of non-southern evils
